Ana Carolina (director)
Ana Carolina (born 27 September 1945) is a Brazilian film director and screenwriter. She directed seven films between 1969 and 2003. In 1978, she was a member of the jury at the 28th Berlin International Film Festival. Her 1982 film ''Heart and Guts'' was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 1982 Cannes Film Festival. Getúlio Vargas (film)
Getúlio Dornelles Vargas (; 19 April 1882 – 24 August 1954) was a Brazilian lawyer and politician who served as the 14th and 17th president of Brazil, from 1930 to 1945 and from 1951 to 1954, respectively. Due to his long and controversial tenure as Brazil's provisional, constitutional, and dictatorial leader, he is considered by historians as the most influential Brazilian politician of the 20th century. Born on 19 April 1882 in São Borja, Rio Grande do Sul, to a powerful local family, Vargas had a short stint in the Army before entering law school. He began his political career as district attorney, soon becoming a state deputy prior to a brief departure from politics. ''Amélia'' is a 2001 Brazilian comedy-drama film directed by Ana Carolina, inspired by the visit of French actress Sarah Bernhardt to Brazil, in 1905. In the film, the actress is under a professional and personal crisis, but is induced by her Brazilian housekeeper, Amélia, to start performing in Rio de Janeiro. However, the actress is forced to live with the exotic sisters of Amélia. Ana Carolina had already written the screenplay for the film in 1989, but does not produced due to lack of money. It was shot in Pernambuco and Rio de Janeiro. It debuted at the Biarritz Film Festival where Béatrice Agenin won the best actress award. ''Sonho de Valsa'' (English: A Waltz Dream) is a popular Brazilian bonbon made with chocolate and cashew nut filling. The chocolate was created in 1938 by the Brazilian Lacta company, which was later bought by Kraft Foods Brazil. Under Kraft, the bonbons have been exported to countries such as the United States, Paraguay, and Venezuela. The candy consists of a wafer cone, covered with two layers of chocolate and stuffed with cashew cream.
