''An Interrupted Divorce'' is a 1916 Australian short comedy film directed by John Gavin starring popular vaudeville comedian Fred Bluett. It was in three parts. It was originally known as ''The Revue Girls''. Its release was delayed due to the lack of film stock in the country. A contemporary critic said that "Miss Gwen Lewis, the clever monologuist of the Royal Strollers, has been entrusted with the leading role, and has proved her versatility by giving an excellent portrayal of the character entrusted to her. Everything points to Miss Lewis making as big a success on the screen as on the speaking stage." The movie screened as a supporting item to the main feature. John Gavin (director)
John F. ('Jack') Gavin (9 February 1874 – 6 January 1938) was a pioneer Australian film actor and director, one of the early filmmakers of the 1910s. He is best known for making films about bushrangers such as Captain Thunderbolt, Captain Moonlite, Ben Hall and Frank Gardiner. Known informally as 'Jack', Gavin worked in collaboration with his wife Agnes, who scripted many of his films. Film historians Graham Shirley and Brian Adams have written; "although Gavin was prolific his later surviving work shows that his entrepreneurial talent outweighed any he might have had as director." Amongst several claims made later in life or soon after his death was one that he had made Australia's first animated short, an advertising film which featured a koala "lapping up a cough remedy". Agnes Gavin
Agnes Gavin (1872–1947), was an Australian actor and screenwriter in the silent film era. She worked in collaboration with her husband John Gavin throughout her career. She wrote the majority of his films and was arguably the first specialist screenwriter in the history of the Australian film industry. In newspapers she was advertised as the "well known picture dramatizer" and was praised for creating "cleverly constructed stories". Many of her films are considered lost. Early life She was born in Sydney as Agnes Adele Wangenheim. At the age of eighteen, she married Barnett Kurtz, and became Agnes Kurtz. Barnett Kurtz had attempted to divorce Agnes in March 1897. Kurtz read a letter to the court in which Agnes said she wanted a divorce; Agnes said she did not want to divorce and wrote the letter just to annoy her husband; the divorce was not granted. Fred Bluett
Frederick George "Fred" Bluett (January 20, 1876, Middlesex, London – December 3, 1942, Double Bay, New South Wales) was a London-born vaudevillian and radio actor. Biography He was the son of comedian and stage actor Frederick William Bluett, and his grandfather had also been a stage performer. Fred came to Australia as a fifteen year old in 1891 and remained in the region for the rest of his life. Not long after arriving in Australia Bluett left for New Zealand, spending almost a decade working for the Fullers on their Dominion circuit. He returned to Australia in 1902 under contract to Harry Rickards and over the next three decades cemented his reputation as one of the region's premier comedians. ''The Sunday Times'' was a newspaper published in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia from 1885 to 1930. History ''The Sunday Times'' was founded by W. H. Leighton Bailey. It was first published on 15 November 1885 by Charles Mark Curtiss, and ceased with no. 2389 on 1 June 1930. ''The Sunday Times'' was controlled by the Evans family for over 30 years, until 1916 when the Sunday Times Newspaper Company, as well as the company's premises, were sold to Hugh D. McIntosh. In 1927, McIntosh sold his holdings in the Sunday Times Newspaper Company to Beckett's Newspapers, with J. H. C. Sleeman as Managing Director.
