An Elixir For Existence
''An Elixir for Existence'' is the second studio album by the Norwegian gothic metal band Sirenia, released in 2004. The album follows in the same vein as the previous '' At Sixes and Sevens'', but includes a new female vocalist, Henriette Bordvik. From this album, Sirenia has been presented as a 4-piece band, with Morten Veland as the only permanent member. Musical style Like its predecessor album '' At Sixes and Sevens'' (2002), the musical style in ''An Elixir for Existence'' corresponds to the more classic Sirenia's gothic metal of their origins, with some elements of symphonic death-doom. A large number of the songs are concerned with mental conditions, be it depression (''"Voices Within"''), drug use (''"Euphoria"'') or thoughts of suicide (''"The Fall Within"''); of course, the meanings of all of these songs are subject to further conjecture. Sirenia (band)
Sirenia is a Norwegian gothic metal band from Stavanger, founded in 2001 by Morten Veland. The band uses melodic instrumentals, synthesizers, and distorted guitars with female vocals, male death vocals, clean male vocals, a choir, and violins. The lyrics are concerned with human existence, emotion, and mental states. Choir
A choir ( ; also known as a chorale or chorus) is a musical ensemble of singers. Choral music, in turn, is the music written specifically for such an ensemble to perform. Emmanuelle Zoldan
Emmanuelle Zoldan (born 18 June 1977) is a French opera singer, best known for her work as a session musician in heavy metal bands as Sirenia, Trail of Tears and Turisas, among others. She is currently the vocalist of Sirenia. Career Zoldan is an operatic mezzo-soprano singer. She has combined her musical activities in the most diverse genres, singing in several operas in France for many years and worked simultaneously with some heavy metal bands and other personal projects. Two of her most notable appearances were in Trail of Tears's '' Existentia'' (2007) and Turisas's ''Battle Metal'' (2004), where she was the main female vocalist. On 8 September 2016, Norwegian gothic metal band Sirenia announced that Zoldan is their new official vocalist, replacing Spanish singer Ailyn Gimenez. Gothic Metal
Gothic metal (or goth metal) is a fusion genre combining the aggression of heavy metal with the dark atmospheres of gothic rock. The music of gothic metal is diverse with bands known to adopt the gothic approach to different styles of heavy metal music. The genre originated during the early 1990s in the United Kingdom originally as an outgrowth of death-doom, a fusion of death metal and doom metal. Lyrics are generally dark and introspective with inspiration from gothic fiction as well as personal experiences. Pioneers of gothic metal include Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride and Anathema, all from the north of England. Joachim Luetke
Joachim Luetke (born 1957) is a German cross-media artist. He is mostly known for his artwork for bands such as Arch Enemy, Dimmu Borgir, Kreator, Marilyn Manson, Meshuggah, Sopor Aeternus and The Ensemble of Shadows and Rage. His art has also been published in book form and compared to that of H. R. Giger. Artistic training Luetke studied graphic-design in Switzerland during the late seventies, and improved his artistic capabilities at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, Austria.
