CLG An Cheathrú Rua (Irish language, Irish: ) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the Gaeltacht area of Carraroe, County Galway, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The club is a member of the Galway GAA. Notable players include Seán Óg de Paor and Sean Ó Domhnaill, members of Galway's All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, All-Ireland winning teams of 1998 and 2001. In 1996, they became the first Gaeltacht, and second Connemara club to win the Galway Senior Club Football Championship beating Oranmore/Maree in the final. The only previous time the county championship was won by a Connemara side was in 1938 when it was won by Oughterard. Carraroe
Carraroe (in Irish, and officially, , meaning 'the red quarter') is a village in County Galway, Ireland, in the Irish-speaking region (Gaeltacht) of Connemara. It is known for its traditional fishing boats, the Galway Hookers. Its population is widely dispersed over the Carraroe peninsula between ''Cuan an Fhir Mhóir'' (Greatman's Bay) and ''Cuan Chasla'' (Casla Bay). Seán Óg De Paor
Seán Óg de Paor (born 24 December 1970) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played at senior level for the Galway county team. De Paor comes from An Cheathrú Rua in the Connemara Gaeltacht, where he attended the local national school, Scoil Mhic Dara. It was there he started playing Gaelic football, and he captained the team that won Corn Uí Chonaire - a competition between Gaeltacht national schools in Galway - two years running, in 1982 and 1983. From there he went on to secondary school in St Jarlath's College in Tuam, where he further developed his Gaelic-footballing skills. He then went on to attend University College Galway, captaining its 1992 Sigerson Cup-winning side. Throughout this period, he was also regularly playing football for his club, An Cheathrú Rua, and he was on the team that was promoted to senior status in 1987, and he played a vital role when the club won the Senior County Championship in 1996 and Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta in 1997. The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC) ( ga, Craobh Shinsir Peile na hÉireann) is the premier competition in Gaelic football. An annual tournament organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), it is contested by the county teams in All-Ireland. The first tournament was held in 1887; it has been held every year since 1889. Galway Intermediate Football Championship
The Galway County Boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae na Gaillimhe) or Galway GAA are one of the 32 county boards in Ireland; they are responsible for Gaelic games in County Galway, and for the Galway county teams. Galway is one of the few dual counties in Ireland, competing in a similar level in both hurling and football codes. Prior to amalgamation of the hurling and football county boards into one county board, each of the two codes were previously run by their separate boards in Galway, which was unusual for a dual county. Comórtas Peile Na Gaeltachta
Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta is an annual All Ireland Gaelic football competition contested by clubs from the Irish language-speaking Gaeltacht areas of Ireland. Clubs compete on a county-basis at first, in order to qualify for the tournament that is hosted by a different club from the Gaeltacht each year. The first competition was held in Gweedore, County Donegal in 1969 and was won by the local club CLG Ghaoth Dobhair. RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta provides radio coverage of both the regional qualifiers and the national finals, held over the June Bank Holiday. TG4 provides live television coverage of the men's semi-finals and finals on the June Bank Holiday Sunday and Monday, and these are also broadcast online.
