An Awful Moment
''An Awful Moment'' is a 1908 American silent short drama film directed by D. W. Griffith. A print of the "one-reeler" is preserved in the film archive of the Library of Congress. Plot Judge Mowbray sentences a man, at which a gypsy woman protests. The Judge later goes home and sees his wife and daughter. However the gypsy woman breaks into his house. She knocks out Mrs. Mowbray, gags her and ties her to a chair. She sets up a gun to shoot her dead when the door is opened. However the daughter wakes up and is able to tell her father, who saves his wife, and the gypsy woman is arrested. George Gebhardt
George Gebhardt (September 21, 1879 – May 2, 1919) was an American silent film actor. He appeared in more than 120 films between 1908 and 1922. He was born in Basel, Switzerland and died in Edendale, Los Angeles from tuberculosis. Kate Bruce
Kate Bruce (February 17, 1860 – April 2, 1946) was an American actress of the silent era. She appeared in more than 280 films between 1908 and 1931. She was born in Columbus, Indiana and died in New York City. In 1885, Bruce left Boone, Iowa in a wagon with a group of traveling actors at a time when stages were illuminated by oil lights. Dorothy West (August 29, 1891 – December 11, 1980) was an American stage and film actress and radio performer. Early life She grew up in Huntsville, Alabama. Career West was a star in Biograph silent films in New York. She later relocated to Hollywood with a group of D.W. Griffith stars that included Mary Pickford, Marion Leonard, Florence Barker, and Mack Sennett in 1909. West, Pickford, Pickford's brother Jack, and Effie Johnson boarded together. She joined a stock theatre company in Mount Vernon, Illinois; then joined the Pitt Stock Players in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and in also performed in theatre in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
