América Futebol Clube, commonly referred to as América de Natal, is a Brazilian professional club based in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte founded on 14 July 1915. It competes in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série C, the third tier of Brazilian football, as well as in the Campeonato Potiguar, the top flight of the Rio Grande do Norte state football league. América won Campeonato do Nordeste (Brazilian Northeast Championship) in 1998, defeating Esporte Clube Vitória by a 3-1 score in the final match. Arena Das Dunas
The Arena das Dunas (" Dunes Arena") is a football stadium in Natal, Brazil. The arena can shelter 31,375 spectators, and was designed by sports architect Christopher Lee of Populous. The stadium hosted football matches for the 2014 FIFA World Cup held in Brazil. During the tournament, it had a seating capacity of 42,000. It was built in place of the Machadão, which was demolished in 2011. This project replaced an old project called "''Estádio Estrela dos Reis Magos''" that would have been located in the neighboring municipality of Parnamirim. Estádio Dr. João Cláudio Vasconcelos Machado, usually known as Machadão, was a multi-purpose stadium in the Brazilian city of Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. It was mostly used for football matches. Estádio Machadão was owned by the Natal City Hall. The stadium was named after João Cláudio Vasconcelos Machado, who was the president of the Rio Grande do Norte Football Federation and a sports broadcaster. Mineirão (), officially Estádio Governador Magalhães Pinto (''Governor Magalhães Pinto Stadium'') is the largest football stadium in the state of Minas Gerais. João Bosco Gualberto de Freitas, usually known as Biro-Biro (born June 23, 1974 in Caiçara do Norte, Rio Grande do Norte), is a retired professional Brazilian footballer who played as a midfielder for América-RN when the club was competing in Campeonato Brasileiro Série A in 1997 and in 1998. Career Biro-Biro played for América-RN from 1993 to 1999, helping his club finish as Campeonato Brasileiro Série B runner-up in 1996. He then played 45 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A matches for América-RN in 1997 and in 1998, and helped his club win the Campeonato do Nordeste in 1998, scoring one of the three club goals in the second leg of the final against Vitória of Bahia state.
