Amy Parmenter
Amy Parmenter (born 1 August 1997) is an Australian netball player in the Suncorp Super Netball league, playing for Giants Netball. Parmenter was elevated to the Giants senior ahead of the 2019 Suncorp Super Netball season, 2019 season, having been a training partner with Canberra Giants in the Australian Netball League for the previous two years. Before her time in the ANL, Parmenter represented Netball New South Wales and Australia at under 17/19 levels. Parmenter had an outstanding debut season at the Giants, recording the most intercepts of any midcourter in the competition and ending the year by being awarded the NNL Young Star Award, Rising Star award. Canberra Giants (ANL) Players
GIANTS Netball Academy is an Australian netball team that represents Netball New South Wales in the Australian Netball League. The team was originally formed in 2016 as a partnership between Netball ACT, Netball New South Wales and Giants Netball. Between 2017 and 2019 they played in the ANL as Canberra GIANTS. They were grand finalists in 2018. In 2019, Netball ACT and Giants Netball ended their partnership and the latter relaunched the team as the Giants Netball Academy. Netball is a ball sport played on a court by two teams of seven players. It is among a rare number of sports which have been created exclusively for female competitors. The sport is played on indoor and outdoor netball courts and is specifically played in schools. Netball is most popularly played in Commonwealth nations. A common misunderstanding of the sport's origins has resulted in the mistaken belief that netball was created to prevent women from playing basketball. However, the sport is the result of Clara Baer's misinterpretation of its rules. Baer had asked James Naismith, the Canadian inventor of basketball, to send her a copy of the rules, and Baer's errors resulted in what marked the beginning of the development of a separate sport. The Suncorp Super Netball Young Star Award, also referred to as the Rookie of the Year or Rising Star, is an annual Suncorp Super Netball award in Australia. It is an award recognising the outstanding on-court achievements of a Suncorp Super Netball athlete. Previously to 2022, to be eligible for the award the netballer had to be aged under 23 years at the beginning of the season. However, the award was modified to remove the age criterion and instead acknowledge any player who has played at least five games in their first year in the league. Netball New South Wales is the governing body for netball in New South Wales. It is affiliated to Netball Australia. It is responsible for organizing and managing two elite level teams, New South Wales Swifts and Giants Netball, who compete in Suncorp Super Netball.
