Amsterdam Tram Line 24
Line 24 is a GVB run tram between the edge of the center of Amsterdam and the northwestern part of Buitenveldert. The starting and ending points are Frederiksplein and the Vrije Universiteit on De Boelelaan. History of the line The Amsterdam tram line 24 was established on October 17, 1929, and operated the route from the Central Station via Damrak – Dam – Rokin – Vijzelstraat – Ferdinand Bolstraat – Ceintuurbaan – Roelof Hartstraat – Joh. M. Coenenstraat – Beethovenstraat – Stadionweg, where a loop was driven through Turnerstraat and Olympiaweg to a stand at Stadionplein . However, trams leaving the Havenstraat depot were stationed on Stadionweg at the reserve stop and therefore did not drive through the loop. Furthermore, until 1975 there was a separate stadium loop on Stadionplein for the installation of extra trams during matches. Buitenveldert
Buitenveldert is a neighborhood of Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is considered the modern Jewish quarter of Amsterdam with its Synagogue, Jewish schools, nursing homes, shops and restaurants. History From the Middle Ages the 'Binnendijksche Buitenveldertse' polder in the rural Amstelland region was part of the Nieuwer-Amstel municipality. In 1921, the Buitenveldert polder was annexed by the city of Amsterdam. Since then, the Kalfjeslaan on the southside of Buitenveldert has been the city limit. As part of the Algemene Uitbreidingsplan (‘General Expansion Plan’) of 1935, the Buitenveldert polder became the site of a new suburb. It was the only suburb on the south side of the city; most other suburbs were planned on the west side. ''Het Parool'' () is an Amsterdam-based daily newspaper. It was first published on 10 February 1941 as a resistance paper during the German occupation of the Netherlands (1940–1945). In English, its name means ''The Password'' or ''The Motto''. History Second World War The paper was preceded by a stenciled newsletter which was started in May 1940 by Frans Goedhart. In late 1940, Wim van Norden joined the group of producers of the newsletter; Van Norden would later serve as director of the newspaper between 1945 and 1979. A tram (called a streetcar or trolley in North America) is a rail vehicle that travels on tramway tracks on public urban streets; some include segments on segregated right-of-way. The tramlines or networks operated as public transport are called tramways or simply trams/streetcars. Many recently built tramways use the contemporary term light rail.
