Amsterdam Zuidoost
Amsterdam-Zuidoost (; "Amsterdam-Southeast") is a borough (''stadsdeel'') of Amsterdam, Netherlands. It consists of four residential neighborhoods—Bijlmermeer, Venserpolder, Gaasperdam and Driemond—as well as the Amstel III/Bullewijk Business Park and the Amsterdam Arena entertainment and shopping district. Geographically, Amsterdam-Zuidoost is an exclave of Amsterdam as it does not border any of the other boroughs. , Amsterdam-Zuidoost had almost 84,000 inhabitants. History The largest neighborhood of Amsterdam-Zuidoost is Bijlmermeer, planned in the 1960s as a modern, functional 'town of the future' in accordance with the principles of the Swiss architect Le Corbusier. Driemond
Driemond is a village in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of Amsterdam Zuidoost, a borough in the municipality of Amsterdam, Netherlands. In 2001, the village of Driemond had 1422 inhabitants. The built-up area of the village was 0.2 km², and contained 571 residences.Statistics Netherlands (CBS), ''Bevolkingskernen in Nederland 2001'. Statistics are for the continuous built-up area. The statistical district "Driemond", which covers the village and the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 1600 and 620 houses. The boroughs of Amsterdam ( nl, stadsdelen; literally "''city parts''") are the eight principal subdivisions of the municipality of Amsterdam, Netherlands. Each borough is governed by a directly elected district committee (''bestuurscommissie''). The first Amsterdam boroughs were created in 1981, with other boroughs created in later years. The last area to be granted the status of borough was Amsterdam-Centrum (2002). The existing system of eight boroughs, covering all parts of Amsterdam, is the result of a major borough reform in 2010. Siegfried Nassuth
Georg Siegfried Nassuth (20 July 1922, Pekalongan, Dutch East Indies - 5 April 2005, Amsterdam) was a Dutch architect, best known as the architect of the Bijlmermeer (officially known as Amsterdam Zuidoost). He attended the Delft University of Technology. After receiving his engineer's degree, Nassuth began working as an urban planner in the municipality of Amsterdam. In 1962 Nassuth became project manager of a team which was planning the Bijlmermeer. Catharina Pieternella "Ella" Vogelaar (23 December 1949 – 7 October 2019) was a Dutch politician of the Labour Party (PvdA) and trade union leader. Political career After graduating from the HBS in Zierikzee she attended the social academy in Driebergen between 1967 and 1972. El Al Flight 1862
On 4 October 1992, El Al Flight 1862, a Boeing 747 cargo aircraft of the then state-owned Israeli airline El Al, crashed into the Groeneveen and Klein-Kruitberg flats in the Bijlmermeer (colloquially "Bijlmer") neighbourhood (part of Amsterdam-Zuidoost) of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The crash is known in Dutch as the (Bijlmer disaster). In all, 43 people were officially reported as killed, including all of the aircraft's three crew members, a nonrevenue passenger in a jump seat, as well as 39 people on the ground. In addition to these fatalities, 11 people were seriously injured and 15 people received minor injuries.
