Amrik Singh
Amrik Singh (1948 – June 6, 1984) was the President of the All India Sikh Students Federation. He was killed in the Indian Army's operation on the Golden Temple on June 6, 1984. Amrik Singh was the son of Giani Kartar Singh Bhindranwale, the 13th leader of the Damdami Taksal. He was well versed in Gurbani and Sikh literature, and devoted much of his life to Sikh progressive activities. He had passed his Masters in Punjabi from Khalsa College in Amritsar after which he began research work on his Ph.D. thesis. Amrik Singh was a prominent leader of the Damdami Taksal along with Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. He contested the 1979 Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) election, backed by Bhindranwale, but lost to Jiwan Singh Umranangal. On 26 April 1982, he led a campaign to get Amritsar the status of a "holy city". During the agitation, he was arrested on 19 July 1982 along with other members of the Damdami Taksal. Amrik Singh Cheema
Amrik Singh Cheema (1918 - 1982) was an Indian civil servant, author, an advocate of green revolution and a former vice chancellor of the Punjab Agricultural University, known for his contributions to the agricultural initiatives of the Indian government. He was honoured by the Government of India in 1969, with the award of Padma Shri, the fourth highest Indian civilian award for his contributions to the society. The Young Farmers Association set up the annual Dr Amrik Singh Cheema award in his name, the former awardees of which include former Punjab Chief Minister CAPT AMRINDER SINGH, former Union Minister Ch BIRENDER SINGH and former Chief Election Commissioner of India MS Gill. Amrik Singh Dhillon, is a Punjabi, Indian politician and former Member of the Punjab Legislative Assembly for the constituency of Samrala, District Ludhiana. Amrik S. Virk (born 1963 or 1964) is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia in the 2013 provincial election. He represented the electoral district of Surrey-Tynehead as a member of the British Columbia Liberal Party and was appointed Minister of Advanced Education on June 10, 2013 by Premier Christy Clark. Following a compensation scandal, he was appointed Minister of Technology, Innovation and Citizens' Services on December 18, 2014, dropping his responsibilities for Advanced Education.
