Ampol Limited is an Australian petroleum company headquartered in Sydney, New South Wales. Ampol is the largest transport energy distributor and retailer in Australia, with more than 1,900 Ampol-branded stations across the country . It also operates in New Zealand through its subsidiary Z Energy. Ampol was first incorporated in 1936 and would later be owned by Pioneer International. The Caltex brand in Australia separately began in 1941 to market petrol in its chain of service stations and was owned by Caltex Australia Limited. In 1995, the Ampol and Caltex operations merged to form Australian Petroleum, equally owned by Pioneer and Caltex Australia. Pioneer sold its shareholding between 1997 and 1998, and Caltex Australia gained full ownership of Australian Petroleum. Waratah Cup
The Waratah Cup is a knockout cup competition in New South Wales, run by the governing body of football in NSW, Football NSW. Teams competing in the Waratah Cup come from the National Premier Leagues NSW, National Premier Leagues NSW 2, National Premier Leagues NSW 3, National Premier Leagues NSW 4 and numerous other semi professional & amateur association clubs within New South Wales. The Cup is held during the NPL NSW seasons. Since 2014 preliminary rounds of the Waratah Cup have been used to determine the NSW entrants to the national FFA Cup competition, now known as the Australia Cup. History The Waratah Cup commenced in 1991 teams featuring clubs from the top 4 tiers of football in New South Wales, as well as teams from non-league associations. National Soccer League
The National Soccer League (NSL) was the top-level soccer league in Australia, run by Soccer Australia and later the Australian Soccer Association. The NSL, the A-League's predecessor, spanned 28 seasons from its inception in 1977 until its demise in 2004, when it was succeeded by the A-League competition run by Football Federation Australia, the successor to the Australian Soccer Association. During the history of the NSL the league was contested by a total of 42 teams; 41 based in Australia and one based in New Zealand. Seasons initially ran during the winter seasons, until 1989 when this was changed to the summer season. Canale Cup
The Canale Cup is a football (soccer) knockout cup competition for the Brisbane, Australia region that includes teams from the Brisbane Premier League and all Capital Leagues (1–3). From 2017 to 2020 it was known as the Pig 'N' Whistle Canale Cup for sponsorship reasons. This has been the major knockout cup competition for the Brisbane region since 2002, when it was known as the South-East Queensland Cup, and subsequently the Premier Cup, and since 2010 with the current naming rights sponsor. Before this and on a statewide basis, several knockout competitions have been held since 1894 in various forms, with the major Queensland knockout cup competitions initially called the Charity Cup to 1920, from 1921 to 1958 as the Tristram Shield, between 1959 and 1991 as the Ampol Cup, and between 1992 and 2001 as the Queensland Cup. Milan Lakoseljac Cup
The Football Federation of Tasmania organises several annual Tasmanian association football (soccer) cups and tournaments alongside the regular league competitions that they also run. The first cup competition in Tasmania was the Falkinder Cup, which began in 1913. For nearly 60 years it was the state's premier football cup tournament, but was eclipsed by the Statewide Cup, and the pre-season Summer Cup. Various Cups and trophies have come and gone, and currently the main non-league tournaments in Tasmania are the Statewide Cup (currently known as the Milan Lakoseljac Cup), and the three pre-season tournaments, the Summer Cup (south), the North West Summer Cup (North West), and the Steve Hudson Cup. Ampol Tournament
The Ampol Tournament was the richest golf event of its time in Australia. From 1952 the sponsor, Ampol, offered great prize money to attract the leading American and European players to compete. Total prize money was initially A£1,000, rising to A£1,300 in 1951. In 1952 and 1954, two tournaments were arranged a few weeks apart. Prize money was A£3,500 for each of the 1952 events while each of the 1954 events had prize money of A£1,500. The A£10,000 in 1956 was the biggest purse outside the United States. Prize money was A£2,500 in 1953 and 1955 and A£3,000 in 1957 and 1959. Prize money often exceeded the advertised figures since part of the proceeds from gate receipts was sometimes added.
