Ampara District
Ampara District ( ta, அம்பாறை மாவட்டம், translit=Ampāṟai Māvaṭṭam; si, අම්පාර දිස්ත්රික්කය, translit=Ampāra Distrikkaya) is one of the 25 districts of Sri Lanka, the second-level administrative divisions of the country. The district is administered by a District Secretariat headed by a District Secretary (previously known as a Government Agent) appointed by the central government of Sri Lanka. The capital of the district is the town of Ampara. The district was carved out of the southern part of Batticaloa District in April 1961. Podiappuhamy H. P. Piyasena (born 3 April 1961) is a Sri Lankan politician and former Member of Parliament. Early life Piyasena was born on 3 April 1961. Career Piyasena was one of the Tamil National Alliance's candidates in Ampara District at the 2010 parliamentary election. He was elected and entered Parliament. A Government Agent (GA) or a District Secretary is a Sri Lankan civil servant of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service appointed by the central government to govern a certain district of the country.
