Ammassivik
Ammassivik (old spelling: ''Angmagssivik'') is a settlement in the Kujalleq municipality in southern Greenland. The modern name is the Kalaallisut for "where you catch ammassaat (capelin)". Its population was 74 in 2010 and 32 in 2020. The settlement was founded in 1889 as Sletten. In 1899, a school the ''Isak Lundip atuarfia'' was built in the settlement by Danish missionaries. The school had 6 students in 2005. In 1922, the settlement became a trading centre. Until December 31, 2008, the settlement belonged to the Nanortalik municipality. Since January 1, 2009, the settlement has been part of the Kujalleq municipality, when the former municipalities of Qaqortoq, Narsaq, and Nanortalik ceased to exist as administrative entities. Nanortalik
Nanortalik (), formerly Nennortalik, is a town in Nanortalik Island, Kujalleq municipality, southern Greenland. With 1,185 inhabitants as of 2020, it is the eleventh-largest town in the country. The name ''Nanortalik'' means "Place of Polar Bears" or "Place Where the Polar Bears Go" (from kl, nanoq). It is the southernmost town in Greenland with a population of over 1,000. History Because of its location, this area was one of the first parts of Greenland settled by the Norse and one of the last settled by the Inuit. The town was founded in 1770 as Nennortalik. In 1797, a permanent trading depot was set up in Nanortalik by traders from Julianehåb. Due to poor harbour facilities, the town was moved three kilometers northward in 1830, where it remains today. Kujalleq
Kujalleq ( Greenlandic: , da, Den Syden, lit=The South) is a municipality on the southern tip of Greenland, operational from 1 January 2009. The administrative center of the municipality is in Qaqortoq (formerly called Julianehåb). Creation The municipality consists of the former municipalities of southern Greenland, each named after the biggest settlement: * Nanortalik Municipality * Narsaq Municipality * Qaqortoq Municipality In addition to the area of these municipalities, uninhabited parts of the former municipalities of Paamiut and Ammassalik were added to the new administrative entity. Qorlortorsuaq is a village in the Nanortalik district, in the Kujalleq municipality in southern Greenland, located at the site of the largest waterfall A waterfall is a point in a river or stream where water flows over a vertical drop or a series of steep drops. Aappilattoq, Kujalleq
Aappilattoq (old spelling: ''Augpilagtoq'') is a village in the Kujalleq municipality in southern Greenland. The name means "red", after the red mountain rising above the settlement in the Greenlandic language. The settlement had 100 inhabitants in 2020. The area of Aappilattoq has been inhabited since the 19th century, but the present-day village was founded in 1922. The main occupations and sources of income are hunting and fishing. Infrastructure and governance The median age of the settlement is 31.4 years, the lowest in the municipality.
