Amir Taga
Imaye Taga (sometimes Amaya or Amiya, he, אמייה "אמיר" טגה, born 1 February 1985) is an Ethiopian-born Israeli former footballer who played for the Israel U21 national team, and currently serves as a member of the city council of Netanya, Israel. Biography Imaye (Amir) Taga was born in Ethiopia to an Ethiopian-Jewish family. The family immigrated to Israel in 1991 during Operation Solomon when he was 6 years old. On 11 August 2006 Amiya's younger brother Avi Taga was found dead by his eldest brother and the Israeli Police in Kiryat Ekron. Taga had been missing from home since Wednesday, 9 August 2006. Club officials went to visit the player at his family residence to console him during the traditional Jewish mourning period of the Shiva. In 2007 he changed his name back to his childhood name. The 2005–06 Israeli Premier League season saw Maccabi Haifa win their third consecutive title. It took place from the first match on 26 August 2005 to the final match on 14 May 2006. Liga Leumit ( he, ליגה לאומית, lit. ''National League'') is the second division of the Israeli Football League, and below its Premier League. Structure There are 16 clubs in the league. At the end of each season, the two lowest-placed teams are relegated to Liga Alef while the two highest-placed teams from Liga Alef are promoted in their place. The UEFA European Under-21 Championship 2007 were held from 10 June 2007 to 23 June 2007. It was the 16th staging of UEFA's European Under-21 Championship. Summary For the first time, a host nation was chosen ahead of the competition – the Netherlands, who were also the defending champions, were exempt from qualifying.
