Amintore Galli Theatre
The Amintore Galli Theatre (or Teatro Amintore Galli) in Rimini Rimini ( , ; rgn, Rémin; la, Ariminum) is a city in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy and capital city of the Province of Rimini. It sprawls along the Adriatic Sea, on the coast between the rivers Marecchia (the ancient ''Ariminu ..., Italy, was opened in 1857, is the city's principal theatre. Originally called Municipal Theatre Vittorio Emanuele II, it was renamed for the composer Amintore Galli. Construction began in 1843 based on a Neo-classical design by Luigi Poletti. In 1943, when Allied bombing during World War 2 left nothing but the facade and part of the foyer. The building was restored, and it reopened in 2019. Amintore Galli
Amyntor Flaminio Claudio Galli (Amintore Galli) (1845–1919) was an Italian composer, musicologist, and journalist. Life He was born in Perticara, Italy on 12 October 1845, but began his musical studies with his uncle Pio Galli in Rimini until 1862 when he enrolled in the Milan Conservatory to be a pupil of Alberto Mazzucato. He would there compose the aria ''Cesare al Rubicone'' to be performed in the Teatro Vittorio Emanuel II in Rimini in 1864 and 1865 and after serving in the Italian Army under Giuseppe Garibaldi in the Battle of Bezzecca, graduated with the canata ''Espiazione''. He then moved to Amelia, Umbria where he became bandmaster in the city chapel and director of the town band between 1871 and 1873, as well as director of the Finale Emilia school from 1871 to 1873. Luigi Poletti (architect)
Luigi Poletti (28 October 1792 – 2 August 1869) was an Italian architect, active in a neoclassical style. Biography He was born in Modena. He initially obtained a doctorate in Mathematics and Philosophy in Bologna. He returns to Modena and becomes engineer of the Garfagnana, and professor of Mechanics and Hydraulics at the University. He then received a stipend to study in Rome. There he studied under Raffaele Stern. In 1823, the ancient Basilica of San Paolo fuori le Mura, one of the seven pilgrimage churches of Rome, was destroyed by fire. When plans for a new church were announced, a great hue arose from the neoclassic adherents of the past, such as Carlo Fea, who advocated for the church to be rebuilt as an exact replica of the past. Initially Pasquale Belli was hired, but soon after was replaced by Poletti who promised a closer replica.
