American Repertory Ballet
The American Repertory Ballet (ARB) is an American ballet company based in New Jersey. The company was founded by Audrée Estey in 1963, as the Princeton Regional Ballet Company. In 1978, it became a professional company and was renamed Princeton Ballet Company. It was named American Repertory Ballet in 1990. The former Garden State Ballet merged with ARB during the 1995–1996 season. ARB is a founding resident company of the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center. Ballet Company
A ballet company is a type of dance troupe which performs classical ballet, neoclassical ballet, and/or contemporary ballet in the European tradition, plus managerial and support staff. Most major ballet companies employ dancers on a year-round basis, except in the United States, where contracts for part of the year (typically thirty or forty weeks) are the norm. A company generally has a home theatre where it stages the majority of its performances, but many companies also tour in their home country or internationally. Ballet companies routinely make a loss at the box office, and depend on external financial support of one kind or another. Audrée Estey
Audrée Phipps Estey (January 7, 1910 – June 6, 2002), known as "New Jersey's First Lady of Dance", was an American dancer who founded the Princeton Ballet Society and the American Repertory Ballet. Biography Estey was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on January 7, 1910, as Audrée Phipps. She married and had a son, Lawrence M. Estey and a daughter, Carol Estey. In 1954 she founded the Princeton Ballet Society. In 1963 she founded the American Repertory Ballet. New Brunswick Performing Arts Center
The New Brunswick Performing Arts Center is a complex in New Brunswick, New Jersey's Civic Square government and cultural district, in the United States. Construction for the US$172 million, 23-story multi-use property began in 2017 and was completed in 2019. It's official opening took place September 4, 2019. The cultural center is home to American Repertory Ballet, Crossroads Theatre, George Street Playhouse, and the theaters for Rutgers University's Mason Gross School of the Arts. The Washington Ballet (TWB) is an ensemble of professional ballet dancers based in Washington DC. It was founded in 1976 by Mary Day, and has been under the artistic directorship of Julie Kent since 2016. Septime Webre was artistic director for 17 years starting in 1999 and stepped down as artistic director at the conclusion of the 2015/2016 season.
