American International (record Label)
American International Records was a record label which was a subsidiary of American International Pictures that was used to release music from their films. It also released recordings from individual artists. Background AIP started their own record label, American International Records, in 1959. The manager was Don Leon. That year he announced that Al Simms replaced Jimmy Madden as the head of A&R. As a division of American International Pictures, it was used to release recorded music soundtracks from the film companies B grade film productions. American International Pictures
American International Pictures (AIP) is an American motion picture production label of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. In its original operating period, AIP was an independent film production and distribution company known for producing and releasing films from 1955 until 1980, a year after its acquisition by Filmways in 1979. It was formed on April 2, 1954 as American Releasing Corporation (ARC) by former Realart Pictures Inc. sales manager James H. Nicholson and entertainment lawyer Samuel Z. Arkoff and their first release was the 1953 UK documentary film ''Operation Malaya''. It was dedicated to releasing low-budget films packaged as double features, primarily of interest to the teenagers of the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. The company eventually became a part of Orion Pictures, which in turn, became a division of MGM. ''Bucktown, USA'' is a 1975 American crime action blaxploitation film released by American International Pictures starring Fred Williamson. Plot Fred Williamson stars as Duke Johnson, a man who arrives in Bucktown to bury his brother, a bar owner who was killed after refusing to pay crooked cops for protection. After arriving in Bucktown, he realizes he needs help after being threatened himself. Duke calls his friend Roy (Thalmus Rasulala) and his gang to come and help. Johnny Pate
John William Pate (born December 5, 1923) is an American former jazz bassist who became a producer, arranger, and leading figure in Chicago soul, pop, and rhythm and blues. He learned piano and tuba as a child and later picked up the bass guitar. He learned arranging while serving in the United States Army. Career The jazz era Following stints with Coleridge Davis and Stuff Smith in the 1940s,Johnny Pateat Allmusic in 1951, Pate was recording on Chess Records with Eddie South and his Orchestra, credited on bass and arrangements. This was also the first of a series of Chess recordings on which Pate collaborated with saxophonist Eddie Johnson. In the 1950s, he was also a resident arranger for Red Saunders's house band at the Club DeLisa. Johnny Pate's trio recorded for a number of Chicago labels, including Gig and Talisman. Luther Rabb
Luther James Rabb (September 7, 1942 – January 22, 2006) was an American singer, musician, and songwriter, from Seattle, Washington, who gained notoriety as the lead vocalist of the jazz rock group Ballin' Jack and in later years as a member of the group War. Early history The son of a minister, Luther grew up in Seattle. He learned to play practicing on his grandmother's piano. He began learning sax at the age of ten. As a teenager he was doing gigs at his local rotary club. He was also a sax player in The Velvetones which was Jimi Hendrix's first band. Between that time and his membership with Ballin' Jack, he had been with the groups The Stags, The Nite Sounds, and The Emergency Exit. Seventies onwards Luther was a member of Ballin' Jack, a group he had founded in 1969 and stayed with them until the group's break up in or around 1974.
