Bernard MacMahon is a British-American film director and screenwriter. Early life Bernard MacMahon was born in England and grew up in South London. He developed an interest in early American cinema at a young age and was shooting and editing 8 mm short films by the age of 12. MacMahon said “America has fascinated me since I was a child. The Williamson Brothers
Arnold and Ervin Williamson (better known as The Williamson Brothers) were folk musicians based in Logan County, West Virginia, United States active in the 1920s and 30s. Arnold played the fiddle while Ervin played the guitar and did vocals. The duo recorded several songs for Okeh Records in the late 1920s, and remained musically active in subsequent decades, although they rarely recorded. Their version of "Gonna Die With a Hammer in My Hand" (a song about John Henry the steel driver) has been reported as being the most popular version ever recorded. Memphis Jug Band
The Memphis Jug Band was an American band (music), musical group active from the mid-1920s to the late-1950s. The band featured harmonica, kazoo, fiddle and mandolin or banjolin, backed by guitar, piano, washboard (musical instrument), washboard, washtub bass and Jug (musical instrument), jug. They played slow blues, pop songs, humorous songs and upbeat dance numbers with jazz and string band flavors. The band made the first commercial recordings in Memphis, Tennessee, and recorded more sides than any other prewar jug band. Beginning in 1926, African American, African-American musicians in the Memphis area grouped around the singer, songwriter, guitarist, and harmonica player Will Shade (also known as Son Brimmer or Sun Brimmer). Carter Family
Carter Family was a traditional American folk music group that recorded between 1927 and 1956. Their music had a profound impact on bluegrass, country, Southern Gospel, pop and rock musicians as well as on the U.S. folk revival of the 1960s. They were the first vocal group to become country music stars, and were among the first groups to record commercially produced country music. Their first recordings were made in Bristol, Tennessee, for the Victor Talking Machine Company under producer Ralph Peer on August 1, 1927, the day before country singer Jimmie Rodgers also made his initial recordings for Victor under Peer.
