''Bolt'' is a 2008 American computer animated comedy- adventure film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. The 48th Disney animated feature film, it was directed by Chris Williams and Byron Howard (in their feature directorial debuts) and produced by Clark Spencer, from a screenplay written by Williams and Dan Fogelman. The film stars the voices of John Travolta, Susie Essman, Mark Walton, Miley Cyrus, Malcolm McDowell, Diedrich Bader, Nick Swardson, and Greg Germann. This was also one of the final film roles for James Lipton before his death on March 2, 2020, the other being ''Igor'', which was released the same year as ''Bolt''. Chris Williams (born December 19, 1968) is an American animator, film director, screenwriter and voice actor who directed the short film ''Glago's Guest''; co-directed '' Bolt'', which was nominated for the Oscar for Best Animated Feature; '' Big Hero 6'', which won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature; '' Moana'', which was nominated for two Oscars for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song; and '' The Sea Beast''. Early life Williams was born on December 19, 1968, in Missouri and spent the first 25 years of his life in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, where his father was the director of Counselling Services at the University of Waterloo. Williams graduated from the University of Waterloo with a degree in Fine Arts and then enrolled in the animation program at Sheridan College, Oakville, Ontario. The Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film is a Golden Globe Award that was awarded for the first time at the 64th Golden Globe Awards in 2007. It was the first time that the Golden Globe Awards had created a separate category for animated films since its establishment. The nominations are announced in January and an awards ceremony is held later in the month. An animated feature is defined by the Academy as a film with a running time of more than 40 minutes in which characters' performances are created using a frame-by-frame technique, a significant number of the major characters are animated, and animation figures in no less than 75 percent of the running time.
