Milton Atsushi Murayama (April 10, 1923 – July 27, 2016) was an American novelist and playwright. A Nisei, he wrote the 1975 novel ''All I Asking for Is My Body'', which is considered a classic novel of the experiences of Japanese Americans in Hawaii before and during World War II. Biography Murayama was born in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii to Japanese immigrant parents from Kyushu. When he was about 12, his family moved to a sugarcane plantation camp at Pu'ukoli'i. (This was a company town of several hundred workers and their families that no longer exists.) Murayama's experiences there provided the material for his novels. After graduating from high school in Lahaina in 1941, he attended the University of Hawaiʻi. Robert Kelly (born September 24, 1935) is an American poet associated with the deep image group. He is the 2016-201Poet Laureate of Dutchess County New York. Early life and education Kelly was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Samuel Jason and Margaret Rose Kelly ''née'' Kane, in 1935. He did his undergraduate studies at the City College of the City University of New York, graduating in 1955. He then spent three years at Columbia University. Teaching career Kelly has worked as a translator and teacher, most notably at Bard College, where he has worked since 1961. Peter Blue Cloud (Aroniawenrate) (1933 – 2011) was a Mohawk poet, and folklorist. Early life He was born June 10, 1933 of the Turtle Clan of the Mohawk Nation on the Caughnawaga Reserve in Kahnawake, Quebec, Canada. He was previously associated with journal ''Akwesasne Notes'' and the journal ''Indian Magazine''. His Christian name was Peter Williams but he went by Peter Blue Cloud. The name Aroniawenrate as a nickname has been translated in English as "Stepping across the Blue Sky" or "Climbing up toward the Blue Sky". Peter Blue Cloud had pen names of Coyote 2, Owl's Child, Turtle's Son, and Kaienwaktatsie. Miguel Algarín Jr. (11 September 1941 – 30 November 2020) was a Puerto Rican poet, writer, co-founder of the Nuyorican Poets Café, and a Rutgers University professor of English. Helen Adam (December 2, 1909 in Glasgow, Scotland – September 19, 1993 in New York City) was a Scottish poet, collagist and photographer who was part of a literary movement contemporaneous to the Beat Generation that occurred in San Francisco during the 1950s and 1960s. Though often associated with the Beat poets, she would more accurately be considered one of the predecessors of the Beat Generation. Life Adam was a precocious poet; her first book, ''The Elfin Pedlar'', was published in 1923, when the poet was 14 years old.
