American Basketball Association (2000–present)
The American Basketball Association (ABA) is an American semi-professional men's basketball minor league that was founded in 1999. The ABA has teams based in the United States and previously had international teams based in Canada and Mexico. In the past, there were traveling teams from countries such as Australia and Japan who played in the ABA. Additionally, there were players from other countries that were on a U.S. team to showcase other talented athletes in the country. The current ABA bears no relation to the original American Basketball Association (1967–1976) that was considered a major league, and merged with the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 1976. History The current ABA was started by Joe Newman and Richard Tinkham. Tinkham was an executive with the Indiana Pacers when they were in the original ABA. Newark Express
The Garden State Warriors are a team in the American Basketball Association based in Paterson, New Jersey. The team was formed in 2005 as the Newark Express and later became the Jersey Express. Marsha Blount is the owner of the team. Inaugural season (2005–06) The Express ended the regular season on March 5, 2006, after losing an away game to the Buffalo Rapids. Their record for the regular season was 14-16 and they finished third in the Roger Brown Division behind the Harlem Strong Dogs and the Strong Island Sound. They had a bye week for the first round of the playoffs. They played on March 17, 2006, in Atlanta against their second round opponent, the Atlanta Vision. Ontario Warriors (ABA)
The Ontario Warriors were a team in American Indoor Football that played in 2012. Based in Ontario, California, the Warriors played their home games at Citizens Business Bank Arena. The Warriors were the first men's indoor football team to play out of the city of Ontario, and the second in the Inland Empire, following the San Bernardino Bucking Bulls of the National Indoor Football League which played in 2007 before the team and league folded. Arkansas RimRockers
The Arkansas RimRockers were a minor league basketball team based in North Little Rock, Arkansas, which played in the American Basketball Association and the NBA Development League. Season by season Franchise history The RimRockers began play during the 2004-05 season for the American Basketball Association. They posted a 32-5 record in the team’s inaugural season and won the ABA championship. Soon after winning the title, they left the ABA and began play in the NBA Development League for the 2005-06 season. On February 10, 2006, the team fired head coach Joe Harge, the only man to coach the team up to that point. He was replaced by Andy Stoglin. Stoglin said he would bring a much different style that begins with strict discipline. Kentucky Colonels (ABA 2000)
Kentucky Colonels (ABA 2000) were a member of the American Basketball Association (2000–present), ABA 2000, the second version of the American Basketball Association. The first American Basketball Association played from 1967 through the 1975–76 season and included a team called the Kentucky Colonels. Both versions of the Colonels played in Louisville, Kentucky. Since the departure of the original Colonels in 1976, Louisville had hosted a handful of professional basketball teams including the Louisville Catbirds of the Continental Basketball Association in the 1980s and the Louisville Shooters of the United States Basketball League. Unsuccessful efforts were made to bring the NBA's relocating Charlotte Hornets and Vancouver Grizzlies to Louisville, along with the Houston Rockets at a time that they were demanding a new arena.
