Daniel Laskin
Daniel M. Laskin (September 3, 1924 – December 8, 2021) was an American oral and maxillofacial surgeon and educator who contributed to his field for over fifty years. He excelled as an educator, a researcher and a clinician. He served as AAOMS president, as well as the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and served as the editor of the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery till his death. He was a major contributor to the dental literature with over 900 contributions to the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He co-authored 16 textbooks and monographs. James Garretson
James Edmund Garretson (18 October 1828 – 26 October 1895) was a professor at the Dental College of Philadelphia, a clinic for oral surgery. With his work ''A treatise on the diseases and surgery of the mouth, jaws and associate parts'', first published in 1869, he helped to establish oral and maxillofacial surgery as a specialty in the United States. He is known as the father of oral surgery. Life He was born in Wilmington, Delaware in 1828. He began studying dentistry during his early years and he first practiced in Woodbury, New Jersey. Dr. Garretson received his dental degree first in 1856. He then received his medical degree in 1859 from Philadelphia College of Dental Surgery which was a predecessor of Pennsylvania College of Dental Surgery. Simon Hullihen ( ) MD, DDS (December 10, 1810 – March 27, 1857) was a dental surgeon born in Point Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. He completed his medical degree and then was inspired to seek a career in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Regarded as the first oral surgeon in the United States, he helped to develop many modern techniques of maxillofacial surgery and contributed to the establishment of oral and maxillofacial surgery as a surgical specialty. Life Simon was born into an Irish-American family of farmers in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania in about 1810. At about the age of nine, he fell into a lime kiln and hurt both of his feet so badly that he was left bedridden for two years.
