Amera Eid
Amera Eid ( ar, أميرة عيد) is an Australian bellydancer who practices Egyptian style Sharqi dancing. She founded the first Egyptian bellydance boutique in Australia. Eid is of Egyptian and European background. Her parents were born in Port Said and Shoubra, Egypt, emigrating to Australia in the early 1960s. Exposed to Egyptian music and dance from a young age, she began professional training in belly dance with Rozeta Ahalyea in Sydney in 1983 and worked the restaurant and Arabic nightclub circuit. She appeared as a support act in concerts for visiting singers such as Mona Merashli, George Wassouf, Rageb Alame, Rabih El Kholi, Amr Diab, Ehab Toufik, Melham Baraket, Tony Mohanna, Mayez Al Bayah, Pascal Mashalany, and Nawal El Zoughby. Belly dance (Egyptian Arabic: رقص بلدي, translated: Dance of the Country/Folk Dance, romanized: Raks/Raas Baladi) is a dance that originates in Egypt. It features movements of the hips and torso. It has evolved to take many different forms depending on the country and region, both in costume and dance style; with the Egyptian styles and costumes being the most recognized worldwide due to Egyptian cinema. The Egyptian style with its traditional Egyptian rhymes is popular worldwide with many schools around the globe now practicing it. George Wassouf ( ar, جورج وسوف; 23 December 1961) is a Syrian singer. In a career spanning more than four decades, he has released more than 30 albums, with a significantly large audience of fans throughout the Arab world. Dubbed Sultan El-Tarab ( ar, سلطان الطرب), he is one of the most successful Arab singers selling over 60 million records worldwide. Early life and career Wassouf was born in Kafroun, Syria to a Greek Orthodox Christian family. Wassouf started singing at the age of 10 in his hometown Kafroun. Nawal El Zoghbi ( ar, نوال الزغبي, also spelled Nawal Al Zoghbi; born 29 June 1972) is a Lebanese pop singer. She achieved popularity first by dancing and singing traditional Arabic music with a pop sensibility, and later singing in the Gulf dialect, and also embracing newer trends in Arabian music.
