''Amer Sports One'' is a Volvo Ocean 60 yacht. She finished third in the 2001–02 Volvo Ocean Race skippered by Grant Dalton. The yacht was purchased by Canadian Derek Hatfield Derek Hatfield (30 August 1952 – 30 July 2016) was a Canadian sailor, and the first Canadian to race solo twice around the world. Biography Hatfield attended Nackawic High School in Nackawic, New Brunswick, and then earned a Bachelor of Admi ..., and renamed Spirit of Adventure. In 2010, Hatfield set a new record for the Halifax to Saint Pierre Ocean Race, in 29h, 43min, and 56sec. In 2016, the yacht is acquired by Gilles Barbot, and renamed ''Esprit de Corps IV''. She was to be skippered by Derek Hatfield who joined Atlas Ocean Racing but Hatfield died in July 2016. At 4am AST on 22 May 2019 while bound for Lunenburg from the Caribbean, the Esprit de Corps IV was shipwrecked on Cross Island, NS. The Whitbread 60 (W60), later known as the Volvo Ocean 60 (VO60), was a class of ocean racing yacht built to a " box rule" specifying key design parameters of the 10 smaller yachts which took part the 1993–94 Whitbread Round the World Race. Grant Dalton
Grant Stanley Dalton (born 1 July 1957) is a New Zealand sailor who has competed in five Whitbread Round the World Races and currently manages Team New Zealand. Background Dalton is a professional sailor who started sailing at the age 8 in the P Class and soon started racing as a member of Maraetai Sailing Club. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the 1995 New Year Honours, for services to yachting. He was shortlisted in 2001 by the International Sailing Federation for the ISAF World Sailor of the Year Awards. His other passion away from sailing is motor racing; as an avid F1 fan and with life with Emirates Team New Zealand more settled than a round-the-world campaign, he can now race on the New Zealand motor racing circuit.
