Amburla
Amburla Station is a pastoral lease that operates as a cattle station in Northern Territory, Australia. The property is situated approximately north of Hermannsburg and west of Alice Springs. Amburla occupies an area of . The most productive area of the property are the Mitchell grass plains at the foot of Mount Hay and the relict alluvial plains of the floodout areas of Amburla, Charley and 16 mile Creeks. The sandy red earth of the floodouts support mulga woodlands. The northern part of the property is composed of sandplains supporting spinifex. Gary Dann, father of television actor Troy Dann, owned the property in 1989. The Danns sold the property in 2007 to Sterling Buntine. Sterling Buntine sold the station in 2011 for 6 million, it was sold to local cattleman Tony Davies. A pastoral lease, sometimes called a pastoral run, is an arrangement used in both Australia and New Zealand where government-owned Crown land is leased out to graziers for the purpose of livestock grazing on rangelands. Hermannsburg, also known as Ntaria, is an Aboriginal community in Ljirapinta Ward of the MacDonnell Shire in the Northern Territory of Australia, ; west southwest of Alice Springs, on the Finke River, in the traditional lands of the Western Arrarnta people. Established as a Lutheran Aboriginal mission in 1877, linguist and anthropologist Carl Strehlow documented the local Western Arrernte language during his time there. ''Astrebla'' is a small genus of xerophytic (adapted to survive in an environment with little liquid water) grasses found only in Australia. They are the dominant grass across much of the continent. They are commonly known as Mitchell grass after Scottish explorer, Thomas Mitchell (1792-1855), who first collected a specimen near Bourke in New South Wales. Mitchell grasses grow on clay soils, mainly between an upper limit of and a lower limit of average annual rainfall, and at even lower rainfall in depressions where the water concentrates following rains, for example in Sturt's Stony Desert.
