Reports of cases in the High Court of Chancery, with some few in other courts, from 1737 to 1783 is the title of a collection of nominate reports, by Charles Ambler, of cases decided by the Court of Chancery between approximately 1737 and 1784. For the purpose of citation their name may be abbreviated to "Amb". Nominate Reports
Nominate reports, also known as nominative reports, named reports and private reports, is a legal term from common-law jurisdictions referring to the various published collections of reports of English cases in various courts from the Middle Ages to the 1860s, when law reporting was officially taken over by the Incorporated Council of Law Reporting, for example Edmund F. Moore's ''Reports of Cases Heard and Determined by the Judicial Committee and the Lords of His Majesty's most Honourable Privy Council on Appeal from the Supreme and Sudder Dewanny Courts in the East Indies'' published in London from 1837 to 1873, referred to as '' Moore's Indian Appeals'' and cited for example as: ''Moofti Mohummud Ubdoollah'' v. Charles Ambler (barrister)
Charles Ambler (1721 – 28 February 1794) was an English barrister and politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1769 and 1790. Early life Ambler was the second son of Humphry Ambler (~1681–1745) barrister of Stubbings Park MaidenheadMary M. Drummond ''The History of Parliament 1754–1790,'' 1964, The History of Parliament Trust and Bream's Buildings Chancery Lane, and his wife Ann, daughter of Charles Bream (~1662–1713) timber merchant of Bridewell and Bream's Buildings. Charles's crippled (by a fall when aged eight) epileptic elder brother, Humphry, died of a consumption unmarried in 1752. Court Of Chancery
The Court of Chancery was a court of equity in England and Wales that followed a set of loose rules to avoid a slow pace of change and possible harshness (or "inequity") of the Common law#History, common law. The Chancery had jurisdiction over all matters of equity, including English trusts law, trusts, English property law, land law, the estates of Mental illness, lunatics and the guardianship of infants. Its initial role was somewhat different: as an extension of the lord chancellor's role as Keeper of the King's Conscience, the court was an administrative body primarily concerned with conscientious law. Thus the Court of Chancery had a far greater remit than the common law courts, whose decisions it had the jurisdiction to overrule for much of its existence, and was far more flexible. The English Reports is a collection of judgments of the higher English courts between 1220 and 1866. In general usage, a dictum ( in Latin; plural dicta) is an authoritative or dogmatic statement. In some contexts, such as legal writing and church cantata librettos, ''dictum'' can have a specific meaning.
