Ambalal Jhaverbhai Patel (died 1961) was an Indian photographer and film producer. Patel started working as a professional photographer in 1924. Royal Photographic Society
The Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain, commonly known as the Royal Photographic Society (RPS), is one of the world's oldest photographic societies. It was founded in London, England, in 1853 as the Photographic Society of London with the objective of promoting the art and science of photography, and in 1853 received Monarchy of the United Kingdom, royal patronage from Queen Victoria and Albert, Prince Consort, Prince Albert. A change to the society's name to reflect the patronage was, however, not considered expedient at the time. In 1874, it was renamed the Photographic Society of Great Britain, and only from 1894 did it become known as the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain, a title which it continues to use today. On 25 June 2019, the Duchess of Cambridge, now Catherine, Princess of Wales, became the Society's Patron, taking over from Queen Elizabeth II who had been patron since 1952. ''Indian News Parade'' was a cinematic newsreel produced by the Indian government between September 1943 and April 1946. Originally a newsreel named ''Indian Movietone News'' from 1942 to 1943, it was produced in response to the Anglo-centric newsreels created by British and American companies. It suffered a poor critical reception, and production ceased shortly after the end of World War II. History After a trip to Hollywood in 1940, film producer Ambalal Patel pitched the idea of a weekly Indian newsreel to the British Government in India. ''Indian Movietone News'' was subsequently established in September 1942 by Patel and Sir Edward Villiers. In an attempt to make the newsreels more accessible to the local population, Villiers intended to focus the content primarily on civil matters, a departure from other newsreels of the day which were heavily Eurocentric. Ezra Mir (26 October 1903 – 7 March 1993) (fl. Mir changed his Jewish birth name, Edwyn Meyers, to Ezra Mir because he felt his original name "lacked Indianness". After working originally as a stage actor, he moved to New York in 1924 and started working in film, first as an actor and then later as an editor. During this period he also made his first short film, ''The Symbolesque'' (1929). Returning to India, Mir began directing films based on Hindi theatre.
