Amarillo High School
Amarillo High School is a school located in the city of Amarillo, Texas, United States and is one of four high schools in the Amarillo Independent School District and classified as a 5A school by the University Interscholastic League (UIL). In 2015, the school was rated " Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency. History Founded in 1889, Amarillo High School began in a converted courthouse which was outgrown and abandoned that same year. Moving to a larger building on Polk street served the schools needs until 1906 and yet another building was utilized until 1910. Construction of a permanent home was completed in 1910, also on Polk street near downtown. A much larger facility was completed nearby in 1922, and this facility was in use until a fire destroyed the entire school except for the gym in 1970. Baseball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams of nine players each, taking turns batting and fielding. Panola College
Panola College is a public community college in Carthage, Texas, the county seat of Panola County. As defined by the Texas Legislature, the official service area of Panola College includes: *all of Marion, Panola, and Shelby Counties, and *all of Harrison County excluding the territory within the Hallsville Independent School District. Howard Lynch
Howard W. "Bull" Lynch (March 2, 1902 – December 10, 1989) was an American football coach. Lynch was born in Hamilton, Texas, but soon moved to Amarillo, Texas, Amarillo. He graduated from Amarillo High School and went on to Centre College in Danville, Kentucky, and the University of Kentucky, where he earned a master's degree in 1933. His first head coaching job was at a high school in Franklin, Kentucky, where his teams were 24–12–1. In 1937, Lynch succeeded Blair Cherry as Amarillo head football coach. Cherry went on to become offensive coordinator at the University of Texas at Austin, University of Texas, and left an Amarillo Sandies football program he had turned into a dynasty by winning three consecutive 4A state championships (1934–1936). An offensive coordinator is a member of the coaching staff of an American football or Canadian football team who is in charge of the team's offense. Generally, along with the defensive coordinator and the special teams coordinator, this coach represents the second level of coaching structure after the head coach. The offensive coordinator is in charge of the team's offensive game plan, and typically calls offensive plays during the game, although some offensive-minded head coaches also handle play-calling. Several position coaches work under the offensive coordinator (position groupings can include quarterbacks, wide receivers, offensive line, running backs, and tight ends). Waco High School is a public high school located in the city of Waco, Texas and classified as a 6A school by the UIL. It is a part of the Waco Independent School District located in central McLennan County. In 2015, the school was rated “Improvement Required” by the Texas Education Agency. History The first home of Waco High School, or Central High as it was then called, was on the lot at Fourth and Webster streets in the early 1880s. There were two buildings, and one had formerly been the Episcopal church with the bell still in the tower. This was the only public school building west of the Brazos. In 1886-1887, these were replaced by a brick building, and in 1911, at Thanksgiving time, the new building on Columbus Avenue was ready for occupancy. Paul Tyson
Paul Leighton Tyson (October 25, 1886 – September 9, 1950) was an American football coach. He was one of the most successful high school football coaches of all time, winning four Texas state championships and one national championship in the 1920s. Knute Rockne called Tyson "one of the finest coaches I ever met, college or high school". Career A native of Arkansas, Tyson enrolled at Addison-Randolph College in Waco, Texas, (later re-founded as Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas) in 1904, intending to become a doctor. Blair Cherry
Johnson Blair Cherry (August 7, 1901 – September 10, 1966) was an American football and baseball coach. He served as the head football coach at the University of Texas at Austin from 1947 to 1950, compiling a record of 32–10–1. His 1950 Texas Longhorns football team won the Southwest Conference (SWC) championship and appeared in the 1951 Cotton Bowl Classic, losing to Tennessee. Cherry was also the head baseball coach at Texas from 1943 to 1945, tallying a mark of 30–23 and winning SWC titles in 1943 and 1945.
