''Amanda Marshall'' is the 1995 debut album by Canadian singer Amanda Marshall. The album peaked at number four on the ''RPM'' Albums Chart and has also been certified Diamond by the CRIA with over 1,000,000 copies sold in Canada, making it Marshall's best-selling album of her career. In the United States, the album charted at number 156 on the ''Billboard'' 200 and sold over 350,000 copies. It was particularly successful in Norway, where it reached number one and received a Platinum certification. The album sold 2 million copies worldwide. Seven songs from the album were released as singles: " Let It Rain", "Birmingham", "Fall from Grace", "Beautiful Goodbye", " Dark Horse", "Sitting on Top of the World", and "Trust Me (This Is Love)". Amanda Marshall
Amanda Meta Marshall (born August 29, 1972) is a Canadian pop-rock singer. She has released three studio albums; the first was certified Diamond in Canada, with the latter two certified 3× Platinum and Platinum respectively. She is best known for her 1996 single, "Birmingham", which reached number 3 in Canada and was her only song to reach the US charts. Early life Marshall was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She grew up an only child, in her own words, "the product of an interracial marriage": her mother is from Trinidad, her father is Canadian. In several of her songs, Marshall has reflected on her racial identity "as a woman who looks white but is actually black". Kristen Hall
Kristen Hall (born October 24, 1962) is an American folk rock singer-songwriter and a founding member of the country music group Sugarland. She had a solo career and released several albums, formed the country band Sugarland, and more recently has been involved in songwriting collaborations with Courtney Jaye. Association with Sugarland Hall formed Sugarland in 2002 with Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush, and was co-writer of many of the group's early hits. Hall left the group in December 2005 after the band's debut album ''Twice the Speed of Life''. Nettles and Bush released a statement that "Kristen has decided that she wants to stay home and write songs, and we support her in that decision." It has been speculated, however, that Hall was pressured into departing the group for image reasons, or that she was paid to leave. Tom "T-Bone" Wolk (December 24, 1951 – February 28, 2010) was an American musician and bassist for the music duo Daryl Hall & John Oates and a member of the ''Saturday Night Live'' house band. Life and career Wolk was born and raised in Yonkers, New York. He was a state accordion champion by age 12. Seeing the Beatles on Ed Sullivan, however, led him to bass and guitar—the former influenced by James Jamerson and Paul McCartney. He attended Roosevelt High School. Although he studied art at Cooper Union, most of his youth was spent playing in bar bands, where he first met guitarist G.E. Bob Mann (born 1944 in New York City, United States) is an American guitarist and arranger. Early life and overview Mann's decision to follow music came at age five through his father, Sy Mann, a well-respected and versatile pianist/arranger (and contemporary of Dick Hyman), who was an active part of the flourishing music business of New York City in the 1950s and 1960s. Mann started on piano, then at age 13 switched to guitar, studied music theory at Queens College and Manhattan School of Music before joining the USAF “Airmen of Note” in the late 1960s. Leland Sklar
Leland Bruce Sklar (born May 28, 1947) is an American bassist and session musician. Sklar rose to prominence as a member of James Taylor's backing band, which coaleced into a group in its own right, The Section. This group of musicians so frequently supported many of the artists on Asylum Records, both on stage and in the studio, that they became known as Asylum's ''de facto'' house band. Those artists would become the standard bearers of the singer-songwriter era in the 1970s. Since then, Sklar has recorded and toured with artists such as James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Carole King, Linda Ronstadt, Phil Collins, Toto, Lyle Lovett and many, many more. "Don't Let It Bring You Down" is the seventh track on Neil Young's 1970 studio album ''After the Gold Rush''. Background The song was written by Young. It also appears on the 1971 Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young live album ''4 Way Street'' as well as Young's 2007 album ''Live at Massey Hall 1971'', which was recorded in 1971, and Young's 2013 album '' Live at the Cellar Door'', which was recorded in 1970. John Reed wrote an arrangement of this for The Hampton String Quartet in 2006.
