Amanda Julia Estill
Amanda Julia Estill (1882 – 1965), also known simply as Julia Estill, was an American educator, writer, and folklorist. Biography Amanda Julia Estill was born on October 27, 1882 in Fredericksburg, Texas to parents Ellen Elizabeth (née Wiley) and James Thomas. She received a B.S. degree (1904) and an M.S. degree (1905) from the University of Texas at Austin. After graduation she taught at Fredericksburg schools, including Fredericksburg High School and also served as a principal. In 1909, Estill had been an active member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy at the Fredericksburg, Texas chapter. Estill was a member and former president (1923 to 1924) of the Texas Folklore Society, the Texas branch of the American Folklore Society (AFS). She published for the Texas Folklore Society and for the San Antonio newspapers, for more than 20 years. Gillespie County
Gillespie County is a County (United States), county located on the Edwards Plateau in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census, its population was 26,725. The county seat is Fredericksburg, Texas, Fredericksburg. It is located in the heart of the rural Texas Hill Country in Central Texas. Gillespie is named for Robert Addison Gillespie, a soldier in the Mexican–American War. On December 15, 1847, a petition was submitted to create Gillespie County. In 1848, the legislature formed Gillespie County from Bexar County, Texas, Bexar and Travis County, Texas, Travis Counties. The Comanche or Nʉmʉnʉʉ ( com, Nʉmʉnʉʉ, "the people") are a Native American tribe from the Southern Plains of the present-day United States. Comanche people today belong to the federally recognized Comanche Nation, headquartered in Lawton, Oklahoma. The Comanche language is a Numic language of the Uto-Aztecan family. Folklore
Folklore is shared by a particular group of people; it encompasses the traditions common to that culture, subculture or group. This includes oral traditions such as tales, legends, proverbs and jokes. They include material culture, ranging from traditional building styles common to the group. Kiowa
Kiowa () people are a Native American tribe and an indigenous people of the Great Plains of the United States. The Tonkawa are a Native American tribe indigenous to present-day Oklahoma. Their Tonkawa language, now extinct, is a linguistic isolate.
