Amagansett Station
Amagansett is a station on the Montauk Branch of the Long Island Rail Road, at Main Street ( NY 27) and Abrahms Landing Road (former Suffolk CR 33A) in Amagansett, New York. History Amagansett station was opened on June 1, 1895, by the Brooklyn and Montauk Railroad, and closely resembled stations such as Sea Cliff and the former East Williston Depot, but lacked the second story and gingerbread woodwork trim that these depots contained. It was burned to the ground in 1909, reportedly by a disgruntled LIRR employee. New York State Route 27 (NY 27) is a long state highway that runs east–west from Interstate 278 (I-278) in the New York City borough of Brooklyn to Montauk Point State Park on Long Island, New York. Its two most prominent components are Sunrise Highway and Montauk Highway, the latter of which includes the Montauk Point State Parkway. NY 27 acts as the primary east–west highway on southern Long Island east of the interchange with the Heckscher State Parkway in Islip Terrace. Sea Cliff (LIRR Station)
Sea Cliff is a historic station along the Oyster Bay Branch of the Long Island Rail Road. It is located on Sea Cliff Avenue and Glen Keith Road between Glen Cove Avenue and Cedar Swamp Road in the City of Glen Cove, New York, east of the Town of Oyster Bay hamlet of Sea Cliff, New York. The station was actually named after Sea Cliff Avenue, rather than the hamlet. History Sea Cliff station was built in 1867 by the Glen Cove Branch Rail Road, and renovated in May 1888 at the cost of $4,000. The station is typical of many LIRR stations of the late-Victorian era. It contains a two-story red brick structure with an gabled-roof that extended into canopies on the sides, which contains elaborate gingerbread woodwork along the canopies. Operation Pastorius was a failed Nazi Germany, German Espionage, intelligence plan for sabotage inside the United States during World War II. The operation was staged in June, 1942 and was to be directed against strategic American economic targets. Mineola is a station on the Main Line and Oyster Bay Branch of the Long Island Rail Road in the village of Mineola, New York. All trains for the Port Jefferson, Ronkonkoma, and Oyster Bay branches run through this station, as well as a few for the Montauk Branch. As of May 2011, 145 trains stop at this station every weekday, more than any other station east of Jamaica. Riverhead is a station along the Main Line (Greenport Branch) of the Long Island Rail Road. It is located on Osborne Avenue and Railroad Street in Riverhead, New York, north of NY 25 (West Main Street) and the Suffolk County Court House. History Riverhead station was opened on July 29, 1844. The station is listed as River Head in the 1852 timetable. The original station house was moved for use as a railroad bunkhouse in March 1870 and the second depot was opened the same month. Between 1891 and 1969, it contained a turntable, water tower, and pump house. The third depot was opened on June 2, 1910, but the agency was closed on November 13, 1972.
