Always (Hazell Dean Album)
''Always'' is the third album by British singer Hazell Dean. Released in October 1988, it coincided with the singer's comeback and featured the hit singles "Who's Leaving Who" (UK #4), "Maybe (We Should Call it a Day)" (UK #15) and "Turn It into Love" (UK #21). Also included were remixes of earlier singles; "They Say It's Gonna Rain" (UK #58, 1985), "No Fool (For Love)" (UK #41, 1985; original version included on ''Heart First''), and "Always Doesn't Mean Forever" (UK #92). The album itself reached #38 - her highest placing in the album charts. The album was also released in the US in 1988 with an alternative cover. On 23 April 2012, a remastered deluxe double edition with bonus tracks, including previously released singles that had not been included on any album; "ESP (Extra Sensual Persuasion)" (UK #98, 1986) and "Stand Up" (UK #79, 1986) - and several remixes has been released on the Cherry Pop UK label. Hazell Dean
Hazell Dean ( Poole; born 27 October 1952) is an English dance-pop singer, who achieved her biggest success in the 1980s as a leading Hi-NRG artist. She is best known for the top-ten hits in the United Kingdom "Searchin' (I Gotta Find a Man)", "Whatever I Do (Wherever I Go)" and "Who's Leaving Who". She has also worked as a songwriter and producer. Career Dean was born in Great Baddow, Essex. She started her career in the mid-1970s and came to prominence in the following decade after many years as a club performer and working on the gay scene with her brand of Hi-NRG. She was elected three times as the "Best Live Performer" by the "Federation of American Dance Clubs" (US), and twice as a "Best British Performer" by "Club Mirror Awards" (UK).. Hi-NRG
Hi-NRG (pronounced "high energy") is a genre of uptempo disco or electronic dance music (EDM) that originated in the United States during the late 1970s and early 1980s. As a music genre, typified by fast tempo, staccato hi-hat rhythms (and the four-on-the-floor pattern), reverberated "intense" vocals and "pulsating" octave basslines, it was particularly influential on the disco scene. Its earliest association was with Italo disco. Characteristics Whether hi-NRG is more rock-oriented than standard disco music is a matter of opinion. EMI Records (formerly EMI Records Ltd.) is a multinational record label owned by Universal Music Group. It originally founded as a British flagship label by the music company of the same name in 1972, and launched in January 1973 as the successor to its Columbia and Parlophone record labels. Stock Aitken Waterman (abbreviated as SAW) are an English songwriting and record production trio consisting of Mike Stock, Matt Aitken, and Pete Waterman. The trio had great success from the mid-1980s through the early 1990s. SAW is considered one of the most successful songwriting and producing partnerships of all time, scoring more than 100 UK top 40 hits, selling 40 million records and earning an estimated £60 million (about $104 million). SAW started producing underground club hits, but earned worldwide success with a mix of hi-NRG-influenced sound, romantic Motown lyrics and Italo disco melodies. "They Say It's Gonna Rain" is a song co-written (with George Sanders) and sung by British female artist Kerry Delius. Ian Geoffrey Levine (born 22 June 1953) is a British songwriter, producer, and DJ. A moderniser of Northern soul music in the UK, and a developer of the style of Hi-NRG, he has written and produced records with sales totalling over 40 million. Levine was once known as a fan of the long-running television show ''Doctor Who''. Early and personal life Levine was born into a Jewish family; his parents owned and ran the "Lemon Tree" complex in Blackpool, including its casino and nightclub. Levine is openly gay.
