Cecilia Alvear (November 5, 1939, – April 21, 2017) was an Ecuadorian-born American journalist in television news and the former president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, was a Field Producer with NBC Network News in Burbank, California. Early career She was the network's Mexico City Bureau Chief from 1982 until 1984, the first Latina to serve in that position, when she was transferred to Miami to serve as the Senior Producer for Latin America. In 1989 she was assigned to the West Coast. Soledad Alvear
María Soledad Alvear Valenzuela (born September 17, 1950), is a Chilean lawyer and Christian Democrat politician, who was a cabinet member of the Aylwin, Frei and Lagos administrations. She was president of the Christian Democrat Party (PDC) from 2006–2008. She is currently senator for Santiago/East. Under President Patricio Aylwin, Alvear worked as Minister of Women's Affairs, a new Ministry created to deal with discrimination against women in Chilean society. Under the Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle administration she assumed as Justice Minister and helped in completely overhauling the Criminal Justice Code, which dated from Spanish Colonial times. With Ricardo Lagos she worked as campaign manager during the 2000 runoff election, and then under his government she worked as Foreign Minister, signing Free Trade Agreement with the United States, the European Community and South Korea. Yuri Alvear Orejuela (born 29 March 1986) is a Colombian judoka, three times World Champion in her division. Early life Yuri was born in Jamundí which is a suburb of Cali, the third largest city in Colombia. Her father Arnuy is a builder and mother Miryam is a housewife. She also has a brother, Harvy. From youth, she was very talented in all kind of sports, she participated in water polo, volleyball, handball, athletics. When she was 14 Ruperto Guaúña, a judo trainer of Litecom school, was looking for girls for his judo team. That's how Yuri became a judoka. Yuri began judo late, but she already was already in good physical condition from previous sport so she just needed to learn technical aspects of judo.
