Estremoz Municipality
Estremoz () is a municipality in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 14,318, in an area of 513.80 km². The city Estremoz itself had a population of 7,682 in 2001. It is located in the Alentejo region. History The region around Estremoz has been inhabited since pre-historic times. There are also vestiges of Roman, Visigoth and Muslim occupation. During the Reconquista, Estremoz was captured in the 12th century by the army of knight Geraldo Sem Pavor (''Gerald the Fearless''), who had also conquered neighbouring Évora. However, Estremoz was soon retaken by the Moors and only in the mid-13th century was it reconquered by the Portuguese King Sancho II. Redondo Municipality
Redondo () is a municipality in the District of Évora in Portugal. The population in 2016 was 6, 567, in an area of 369.51 km2. History The area of Redondo municipality contains an important megalithic cluster, including the Anta da Vidigueira, Anta da Candeeira and Anta de Colmeeiro dolmens, or neolithic burial chambers. In 1250, a foral (''charter'') attributed to King D. Afonso III was issued to Redondo. At the same time, the king ordered the construction of a castle over the ruins of the ancient Roman fortress. Later, the town was ruled by the Count of Redondo starting in the 1500s. Portalegre () is a municipality in Portugal. The population was 22,368, in an area of . The municipality is located by the Serra de São Mamede in the Portalegre District. Its name comes from the Latin Portus Alacer (meaning "cheerful port"). The municipal holiday is 23 May. Monforte () is a municipality in the District of Portalegre in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 3,329, in an area of 420.25 km2. History The human occupation of this territory began in the neolithic period, with small communities farming and cattle raising. Marvão Municipality
Marvão () is a municipality in Portalegre District in Portugal. The population in 2020 was 2,972 (and dropping at a rate of around one inhabitant per week), in an area of 154.90 km2.
