Alta High School, also known as Alta Junior-Senior High School, was the senior high school of the Alta Community School District. It is located in the city of Alta, Iowa in Buena Vista County, Iowa, United States. Alta-Aurelia High School is now the community's high school. Education Alta High School had a 10:1 teacher to student ratio. Alta's graduation rate is 93.3% and 74% of the 2004-2005 ACT participating Seniors scoring 20 or higher on the ACT. Alta–Aurelia Community School District is a public school district with offices in Alta and Aurelia in Iowa. The district, which serves Alta and Aurelia, covers sections of Buena Vista and Cherokee counties, with a very small section in Sac County. Iowa Central Community College is a public community college in Fort Dodge, Iowa, with satellite campuses in Webster City and Storm Lake. History The college was organized in 1966 on the foundation of three area junior colleges which had been operating since the 1920s by the local public school systems. Buena Vista University
Buena Vista University is a private university in Storm Lake, Iowa. Founded in 1891 as Buena Vista College, it is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church. The university's campus is situated on the shores of Storm Lake, a natural lake. At its inception, the college was housed in the Storm Lake Opera House, where it remained for only a year. Old Main, the college's first building, opened in 1892, and was occupied by faculty and students until it burned down in 1956. The National Honor Society (NHS) is a nationwide organization for high school students in the United States and outlying territories, which consists of many chapters in high schools. Selection is based on four criteria: scholarship (academic achievement), leadership, service, and character. Junior Engineering Technical Society (JETS) was a national non-profit organization dedicated to promoting engineering and technology careers to America's young people.
