Alsy MacDonald
Alan MacDonald (born 14 August 1961) is an Australian musician and lawyer, best known as the drummer of the 1980s band The Triffids, where he performed under his nickname 'Alsy'. He was born on 14 August 1961 to Prof. Bill MacDonald, a professor of child health at University of Western Australia, and Dr Judy Henzell ( AM), a well-known paediatrician. He was the youngest of the four children, with two older brothers and a sister. As a child he couldn't say 'Alan' properly so called himself 'Alsy'. He went to Hollywood Senior High School in Perth, Western Australia and was close friends with David McComb. In 1976, partly in response to the emergence of punk rock, MacDonald and McComb formed Dalsy, later known as Blök Music and then The Triffids (from the post-apocalyptic John Wyndham novel, ''The Day of the Triffids''). Andrew McGowan
Andrew Brian McGowan (born 1961) is an Australian scholar of early Christianity and an Anglican priest. He is McFaddin Professor of Anglican Studies at Yale Divinity School and dean and president of the Berkeley Divinity School at Yale. Prior to appointment at Berkeley and Yale he was the seventh warden of Trinity College (University of Melbourne) (2007–2014) and Joan F. W. Munro Professor of Historical Theology in the Trinity College Theological School, Melbourne within the University of Divinity. The album was recorded at Mark Angelo Studios in London in August 1985 with Gil Norton co-producing with the band, and mixed at Amazon Studios in Liverpool in September 1985. ''Treeless Plain'' is the debut album by The Triffids, released in November, 1983. The album was recorded at Emerald City Studios, Sydney, Australia in twelve midnight to dawn sessions, during August through to September 1983. It was the band's first release after signing with Hot Records. A remastered version of the album, with seven bonus live tracks recorded in 1983, was released in Australia in June 2008 through Liberation Music. Details David McComb later said, "I don't think it's a great record, but at least we tried to do a few things that pub bands wouldn't normally do. For a lot of the underground scene all across Australia, we just weren't hard rock enough. We used to have a thing against pedals." ''Bad Timing and Other Stories'' is the second official recording by The Triffids, released as a 7" extended play in April 1983. Its four tracks were produced by Robert Ash for White Records Label an imprint of Mushroom Records. Although the band had admired Ash's work with the Only Ones, they were disappointed with the results. McComb said, "It was good in one way, because it made us realise that the band could produce itself by that stage, and that we'd learnt enough after making 4 records. In fact, we probably should have started producing ourselves earlier. In our case, as long as we have the right engineer, we can make all the right decisions."
