Alstahaug Municipality
Alstahaug is a municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is part of the Helgeland region. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Sandnessjøen. Some of the villages in Alstahaug include Søvika and Tjøtta. Most residents of Alstahaug live in the town of Sandnessjøen which is situated on the island of Alsta. The characteristic Seven Sisters mountain range is found on the eastern part of the island. Local legend has made this chain of peaks into seven sisters, two adjacent peaks representing twin sisters. The island is connected to the mainland via the large Helgeland Bridge along Norwegian County Road 17. The Sandnessjøen Airport, Stokka is located 10 km south of Sandnessjøen. Alstahaug Church
Alstahaug Church ( no, Alstahaug kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in the municipality of Alstahaug in Nordland county, Norway. It is one of seven surviving medieval churches in northern Norway. Petter Dass was the vicar at this church from 1689 until his death in 1707. The church is located in the village of Alstahaug on the southern end of the island of Alsta. It is the church for the parish of Alstahaug, which is part of the Nord-Helgeland deanery in the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland. The stone church was built in a long-church style in the 12th century. The church seats about 270 people. History The Romanesque stone church has a rectangular nave and a narrower, almost square chancel where the width is greater than the length. Skålvær
Skålvær are a group of islands in the municipality of Alstahaug in Nordland county, Norway. The islands are located in the western part of Alstahaug, about northwest of the island of Tjøtta, just west of the southern tip of the island of Altra, and about south of the village of Silvalen (in Herøy Municipality). The islands were formerly a part of Vega Municipality, but in 1971 it was transferred to Alstahaug. Skålvær was once a thriving trading post and had many residents, but it has since declined in importance. Today, much of Skålvær is an outdoor recreation area for Alstahaug municipality. In addition, there are about fifteen private houses and cottages scattered around the main island. Since 2007, there are no longer any permanent residents on Skålvær, but the place is far from abandoned. Husvær
Husvær is an island group in the municipality of Herøy in Nordland county, Norway. The islands are located about southwest of the municipal center of Silvalen and just southwest of the island of Tenna. The Sandværet islands lie about west of Husvær. The islands have one main road connecting several of the populated islands together with a ferry link at the eastern end. The main populated islands are Husvær, Prestøya, and Brasøya. The Schei Committee ( no, Schei-komitéen) was a committee named by the Government of Norway to look into the organization of municipalities in Norway post-World War II. It convened in 1946, and its formal name was (The 1946 Committee on Municipal Division).
