Alpine Skiing
Alpine skiing, or downhill skiing, is the pastime of sliding down snow-covered slopes on skis with fixed-heel bindings, unlike other types of skiing ( cross-country, Telemark, or ski jumping), which use skis with free-heel bindings. Whether for recreation or for sport, it is typically practiced at ski resorts, which provide such services as ski lifts, artificial snow making, snow grooming, restaurants, and ski patrol. "Off-piste" skiers—those skiing outside ski area boundaries—may employ snowmobiles, helicopters or snowcats to deliver them to the top of a slope. Back-country skiers may use specialized equipment with a free-heel mode, including 'sticky' skins on the bottoms of the skis to stop them sliding backwards during an ascent, then locking the heel and removing the skins for their descent. River Radamus (born February 12, 1998) is an American World Cup alpine ski racer from Colorado. He is a three-time Youth Olympic Games gold medalist and a two-time Junior World Champion. At the World Cup level, Radamus is a three-event skier, competing in slalom, giant slalom, and super G. He is the son of Aldo Radamus, former U.S. Ski Team coach and Ski Club Vail director. Petra Vlhová (born 13 June 1995) is a Slovak World Cup alpine ski racer who specialises in the technical events of slalom and giant slalom. Vlhová won the World Cup overall title in 2021 and the gold medal in the 2022 Winter Olympics in the slalom event, becoming the first Slovak skier to achieve these feats. Career Born in Liptovský Mikuláš during childhood, she attended training sessions at Podbreziny ski center in her native Litpovský Mikuláš.
