Alpine Skiing At The 2018 Winter Olympics – Mixed Team
The team event competition of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympics was held on 24 February 2018 at the Yongpyong Alpine Centre in PyeongChang. Rules This was a parallel slalom competition. There were four members on each team (two males and two females), as well as two reserves. There were four races and the winner of each race scored a point for their team (a tied race awards one point per team). The first race was female against female, race two was male against male, race three was female against female and the last race was male against male. If, after four races, both teams had the same number of points, then the race times of each team's fastest man and woman would be added and the team with the best aggregate time won. If there were two non finishes in the same race, whoever progressed further would win the race. Alpine skiing, or downhill skiing, is the pastime of sliding down snow-covered slopes on skis with fixed-heel bindings, unlike other types of skiing ( cross-country, Telemark, or ski jumping), which use skis with free-heel bindings. Erik Read (born May 31, 1991) is a Canadian World Cup alpine ski racer specializing the technical events of slalom and giant slalom. Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, he represented Canada at two Winter Olympics and five World Championships. Career At his first World Championships in 2015 at Beaver Creek, USA, Read finished in the top thirty in giant slalom and slalom. He was also in the Nations Team Event (NTE), in which Canada won the silver medal. He competed in slalom and giant slalom at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Erin Mielzynski (born 25 May 1990) is a Canadian former World Cup alpine ski racer. She primarily competed in technical events and specialized in slalom. Born in Brampton, Ontario, Mielzynski made her World Cup debut in November 2009 and has competed in three Winter Olympics and five World Championships. She won her first World Cup race in March 2012 in slalom at Ofterschwang, Germany, her first top-ten finish. It was the first World Cup victory for a Canadian woman in over four years, when Emily Brydon won a Super G in February 2008 at St. Moritz, Switzerland. Candace Crawford
Candace Crawford (born March 11, 1994) is a Canadian alpine skier. Candace's home ski club is The Georgian Peaks Ski Club in Thornbury Ontario. Her younger brother Jack is also an alpine skier. Crawford competed in the World Cup the first time in slalom in Sölden in October 2014. She earned her first World Cup points in Kühtai's slalom in December 2014 for being 25th. Crawford was part of the Canadian alpine skiing team that won the silver medal in the Nations Team Event at the 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Vail and Beaver Creek, Colorado. Crawford competed on a team with Erin Mielzynski, Phil Brown, Trevor Philp and the substitutes Marie-Pier Préfontaine and Erik Read. Yongpyong Resort
Yongpyong (Dragon Valley) Ski Resort is a ski resort in South Korea, located in Daegwallyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do. It is the largest ski and snowboard resort in Korea, and offers golf in the summer months. A 1949 news article covered a ski slope in Daegwallyeong, which had only the ski slope at that time. Yongpyong's first ski lift was built in 1975. In 1981, a Korean company called Ssangyong Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd bought the owner(유국개발) of Yongpyong Resort, and in turn obtained the resort. SsangYong began to experience financial difficulties from the 1997 Asian financial crisis. In 2003, Segye Ilbo, which is owned by the Unification Church, bought Yongpyong Resort. Alpine skiing at the 2018 Winter Olympics was held from 12 to 24 February at Yongpyong Alpine Centre (slalom and giant slalom) at the Alpensia Sports Park in PyeongChang and at the Jeongseon Alpine Centre (speed events) in Jeongseon, South Korea. In June 2015, the International Olympic Committee approved the addition of a mixed team event, bringing the total of medal events in alpine skiing to eleven. It was the last event on the schedule. Qualification A maximum of 320 quota spots were available to athletes to compete at the games. A maximum of twenty-two athletes could be entered by a National Olympic Committee, with a maximum of fourteen men or fourteen women. The alpine skiing mixed team event competition of the Beijing 2022 Olympics was held on 20 February, on "Rainbow" course at the Xiaohaituo Alpine Skiing Field in Yanqing District. Austria won the event, with Germany second and Norway third. Switzerland were the defending champion, with Austria and Norway the defending silver and bronze medalists, respectively.
