Alpine Skiing
Alpine skiing, or downhill skiing, is the pastime of sliding down snow-covered slopes on skis with fixed-heel bindings, unlike other types of skiing ( cross-country, Telemark, or ski jumping), which use skis with free-heel bindings. Whether for recreation or for sport, it is typically practiced at ski resorts, which provide such services as ski lifts, artificial snow making, snow grooming, restaurants, and ski patrol. Šárka Strachová
Šárka Strachová (, née Záhrobská ; born on 11 February 1985) is a retired Czech World Cup alpine ski racer. Born in Benecko, she specializes in the slalom event. Strachová is the first alpine racer representing the Czech Republic to medal at the Winter Olympics and at the World Championships and just the second Czech alpine skier ever to medal in the Olympics. Ski racing career Záhrobská won the gold medal in slalom at the 2007 World Championships and narrowly missed a bronze in the super combined, finishing in 4th place by 0.20 seconds. Two years earlier, she won her first medal at the 2005 World Championships, taking the bronze in slalom while placing fifth in the combined. Macarena Simari Birkner (born November 22, 1984) is a female skier from Argentina. She has represented Argentina in 2002, 2006, 2010 and the 2014 Winter Olympics, in the Alpine skiing events. She also took part in the 2005 Alpine Skiing World Cup, where she came 20th in the Women's Combined, and in the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2009. Klára Křížová (, 13 July 1989) is a female alpine skier from the Czech Republic. She took part in the alpine skiing events at the 2010 Winter Olympics. She also competed in the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2009. Křížová opened the women's downhill in the 2010 Winter Olympics, but suffered a crash, in which she lost a ski pole, following this she was able to finish in 37, placing her as the slowest person to successfully complete the course at 2:09:27. By the age of 12, she participated in World Cup races for children, and made her World Cup debut in December 2005 at age 17.
