Alpine County Unified School district is the public school district serving Alpine County, the least populated county in California, in the Sierra Nevada. It has a total enrollment of under 100 pupils. It operates Diamond Valley Elementary in Markleeville, which is the largest school, having 66 students in the 2019–2020 academic year; as well as Bear Valley Elementary in Bear Valley, which had four students in the same year; Alpine County Opportunity School in Woodfords, which had no students traditionally enrolled, but operates an online learning program; and Alpine County Community Day School, also in Woodfords, which serves expelled students, students on probation, and other students with special circumstances. Markleeville, California
Markleeville (formerly, Markleville) is a census-designated place (CDP) and the county seat of Alpine County, California, United States. The population was 210 at the 2010 census, up from 197 at the 2000 census. History Jacob J. Marklee founded a toll bridge crossing the Carson River in 1861. He aimed to tap into the traffic from the silver mining boom at Silver Mountain City. On June 23, 1862, he recorded a land claim of 160 acres in Douglas County, Nevada. A boundary survey took place, and the property ended up being in California. In 1863, Marklee died after being involved in a gunfight. When the Comstock Lode discovery took place, the town of Markleeville was founded on the Marklee property. Today, the Alpine County Courthouse sits on the former property, which is listed as a California Historical Landmark. A post office opened in Markleeville in 1863. Bear Valley is a census-designated place in Alpine County, California, best known as the location of the Bear Valley ski area. The population was 121 at the 2010 census, down from 133 at the 2000 census. Geography Bear Valley is within the Stanislaus National Forest and is reached by State Route 4. Woodfords, California
Woodfords (formerly, Brannan Springs, Carey's Mill, Cary's Mills, Carys Mill, Carys Mills, Woodford's, Carey's Mills, and Woodford) is an unincorporated community in Alpine County, California, near Markleeville. For census purposes, it is included in Alpine Village. It is located north-northwest of Markleeville, at . History Woodfords holds title as the oldest non-native settlement in the entire region. Sam Brannan left supplies near a spring here in 1847 on his way to Salt Lake City, and Brannan Springs, as it was then called, was ideally positioned to take advantage of traffic on the booming road to California. After a brief period during which the settlement was known as Carey's Mills, the Woodfords name came into common usage following the establishment of an official post office near a hotel by Daniel Woodford in 1849. Douglas County is a county in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Nevada. As of th2020 Census the population was 49,488. Its county seat is Minden. Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) is a public school district in El Dorado County, California, United States. Included in the district are four Primary school, primary (elementary) schools, one middle school, one high school, a continuation high school, and one Independent study, independent learning school. As of 2014, the district has a total enrollment of 3881 across its eight schools and has enjoyed minor growth from the previous year. As of July 2020, the school's superintendent is Todd E.
