Alphonse Osch
Alphonse Osch (29 April 1909 – 18 June 1997) was a Luxembourgian politician. He was a member of the Luxembourg Resistance during the Second World War, and was later a co-founder of the Democratic Party. In 1945 and from 1953 to 1954, after the resignation of Ferdinand Frieden, he was a member of the Chamber of Deputies. He was the minister for public health and war damages, from 1947 to 1948 in the Dupong-Schaus Ministry and from 1948 to 1951 in the Dupong-Schaus-Bodson Ministry. Luxembourgers
Luxembourgers ( ; lb, Lëtzebuerger ) are a Germanic ethnic group and nation native to their nation state of Luxembourg, where they make up around half of the population. They share the culture of Luxembourg and speak Luxembourgish. Luxembourgers were, much like Austrians, historically considered to be a regional subgroup of ethnic Germans and viewed themselves as such until the collapse of the German Confederation. Luxembourg became independent, while remaining in personal union with the Netherlands, after the signing of the Treaty of London in 1839. Luxembourg Resistance
When Luxembourg was invaded and annexed by Nazi Germany in 1940, a national consciousness started to come about. From 1941 onwards, the first resistance groups, such as the '' Letzeburger Ro'de Lé'w'' or the ''PI-Men'', were founded. Operating underground, they secretly worked against the German occupation, helping to bring political refugees and those trying to avoid being conscripted into the German forces across the border, and put out patriotic leaflets (often depicting Grand Duchess Charlotte) encouraging the population of Luxembourg to pull through. As with other countries, the origins, ideological and otherwise, of the different Resistance groups were varied: it ranged from those who found Nazi ideology itself worth fighting against, to those who valued first and foremost their country's freedom.
