Alphonse Fournier
Alphonse Fournier, (March 24, 1893 – October 8, 1961) was a Canadian politician. Born in Methuen, Massachusetts, he was first elected to the House of Commons of Canada representing the Quebec riding of Hull in the 1930 federal election. A Liberal, he was re-elected in 1935, 1940, 1945, and 1949. From 1942 to 1953, he was the Minister of Public Works. From 1948 to 1953, he was the Leader of the Government in the House of Commons and Liberal Party House Leader. His, son, Roy Fournier, was also a member of the Quebec parliament and solicitor general for the province of Quebec. 1949 Canadian Federal Election
The 1949 Canadian federal election was held June 27, 1949 to elect members of the House of Commons of Canada of the 21st Parliament of Canada. The Liberal Party of Canada was re-elected with its fourth consecutive government, winning 191 seats (73 percent of the seats in the House of Commons), with just under 50 percent of the popular vote. It was the Liberals' first election in almost thirty years not under the leadership William Lyon Mackenzie King. King had retired in 1948, and was replaced as Liberal leader and Prime Minister by Louis St. Laurent. It was the first federal election with Newfoundland voting, having joined Canada in March of that year. In archival science, a fonds is a group of documents that share the same origin and that have occurred naturally as an outgrowth of the daily workings of an agency, individual, or organization. An example of a fonds could be the writings of a poet that were never published or the records of an institution during a specific period. Fonds are a part of a hierarchical level of description system in an archive that begins with fonds at the top, and the subsequent levels become more descriptive and narrower as one goes down the hierarchy. The level of description goes from fonds to series to file and then an item level. However, between the fonds and series level there is sometimes a sub-fonds or sous-fonds level and between the series to file level there is sometimes a sub-series level that helps narrow down the hierarchy. Roy Fournier
Roy Fournier, (August 22, 1921 – June 20, 1991) was a lawyer and political figure in Quebec. He represented Gatineau in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec and then National Assembly of Quebec from 1962 to 1972 as a Liberal member. He was born in Maniwaki, Quebec, and is the son of Alphonse Fournier, who served in the Canadian House of Commons, and Lorette Roy. Fournier studied at the Normal School in Hull, at the Collège Brébeuf in Montreal, at the University of Ottawa and at the Université de Montréal. He was admitted to the Quebec bar in 1948. Fournier was legal counsel for the city of Hull and the municipalities of Pointe-Gatineau, Denholm and Low. He was named Queen's Counsel in 1963 and was bâtonnier for the Hull bar in 1964 and 1965.
