''Alphaville: une étrange aventure de Lemmy Caution'' (''Alphaville: A Strange Adventure of Lemmy Caution'') is a 1965 French New Wave science fiction neo-noir film directed by Jean-Luc Godard. It stars Eddie Constantine, Anna Karina, Howard Vernon and Akim Tamiroff. The film won the Golden Bear award of the 15th Berlin International Film Festival in 1965. ''Alphaville'' combines the genres of dystopian science fiction and film noir. There are no special props or futuristic sets; instead, the film was shot in real locations in Paris, the night-time streets of the capital becoming the streets of Alphaville, while modernist glass and concrete buildings (that in 1965 were new and strange architectural designs) represent the city's interiors. The film is set in the future but the characters also refer to twentieth-century events; for example, the hero describes himself as a Guadalcanal veteran. Alphaville (band)
Alphaville is a German synth-pop band formed in Münster in 1982. They gained popularity in the 1980s. The group was founded by singer Marian Gold, Bernhard Lloyd, and Frank Mertens. They achieved chart success with the singles " Forever Young", " Big in Japan", "Sounds Like a Melody", "The Jet Set" and " Dance with Me". Gold remains the only continuous member of Alphaville. History Formation Alphaville was formed after lead singer Marian Gold and Bernhard Lloyd met in Berlin in 1981. The pair were heavily influenced by UK indie acts like Tubeway Army, Gary Numan and Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD). Gold had written "Big in Japan" in 1979 after hearing the music of Holly Johnson's band Big in Japan. They first named their band "Forever Young" and subsequently changed it to "Alphaville" after the 1965 science fiction film. ''Olympia'' is the thirteenth studio album by English singer Bryan Ferry, released on 25 October 2010 by Virgin Records. Co-produced by Ferry and Rhett Davies, ''Olympia'' is Ferry's first album of predominantly original material since 2002's '' Frantic''. The album features a wide range of contributors, including co-songwriter David A. Stewart of Eurythmics, Brian Eno, Phil Manzanera and Andy Mackay of Roxy Music, the electronic group Groove Armada, David Gilmour, Marcus Miller, Scissor Sisters, Nile Rodgers, Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead, Steve Nieve, and Flea. ''The Sims Online'', also known as ''EA-Land'', was a massively multiplayer online variation on Maxis' computer game ''The Sims''. It was published by Electronic Arts and released in December 2002 for Microsoft Windows. The game was sold in retail stores in North America and Japan and could also be downloaded worldwide through the EA.com online store, though the game was English-only and had no official translations. The game charged a subscription fee of US $9.99 per month. In March 2007, EA announced that the product would be re-branded as ''EA-Land'' and major enhancements would be made. EA later announced that the game would shut down all activity on August 1, 2008. Gameplay Four cities had special rules: Dragon's Cove contained harder game objectives. David McIlwain (21 January 1921 – 30 November 1981) better known by his pen name, Charles Eric Maine, was an English writer best known for several science fiction serials published in the 1950s and 1960s. He also wrote detective thrillers under the pen names Richard Rayner and Robert Wade. Biography Maine was born in Liverpool, England on 21 January 1921. His writing career began with publishing three issues of a science fiction magazine called '' The Satellite'' which he co-edited along with J. F. Burke. From 1940 to 1941, he published his own magazine, called ''Gargoyle''. During World War II, he was in the Royal Air Force and served in Northern Africa in 1943. After the war, he worked in TV engineering and became involved in editorial work for radio and TV. During 1952, he sold his first radio play, ''Spaceways'', to the BBC. Alphaville, São Paulo (, ) is an affluent district split between the municipalities of Barueri and Santana de Parnaíba suburbs of São Paulo. The Alphaville concept is a real estate and gated community development in Brazil, constituted by a number of business and residential condominia.
