Aloha Classic
The Aloha Classic is touted as "the single most prestigious event in the windsurfing world". Held at Ho'okipa Beach Park on the north shore of Maui, this event enjoys outstanding wave riding conditions showcasing the best wave riders from all over the world. The event takes place each year in late October and early November for the best wind and wave conditions and it is common to have 15–20 foot wave faces during the contest. Since 2011 the event has been run by the International Windsurfing Tour (IWT) as the Grand Final of The IWT Wave Tour. The IWT is the Hawaiian based organisation for the wave riders of the Asia Pacific hemisphere. The Aloha Classic has often been the final event of the Professional Windsurfers Association (PWA) crowning the PWA Wave World Champions. Windsurfing
Windsurfing is a wind propelled water sport that is a combination of sailing and surfing. It is also referred to as "sailboarding" and "boardsailing", and emerged in the late 1960s from the aerospace and surf culture of California. Windsurfing gained a popular following across Europe and North America by the late 1970s and had achieved significant global popularity by the 1980s. Windsurfing became an olympic sport in 1984. Robby Naish
Robert Staunton Naish (born April 23, 1963 in La Jolla, San Diego, California) is an American athlete and entrepreneur who has won 24 World Championship Windsurfing titles. He is also considered a pioneer of kiteboarding and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP). In 1976, Naish won his first world championship in windsurfing at age 13 in the Bahamas. Since then, he has been featured in films, videos, news reports, and articles. Jason Polakow
Jason Polakow (born 10 November 1971 in Torquay, Victoria) is an Australian professional windsurfer from Victoria. He founded the watersports company JP Australia and was the first windsurfer to ride big wave of Nazare, in Portugal. Debbie Brown
Debbie Brown (born 1962) is a multi-racquets coach in Dublin, Ireland. She is a former American college tennis and US National champion squash player. She currently coaches tennis, padel, and pickleball. She has submitted application for Irish citizenship. Personal life She married her partner Orla O'Doherty, a former Irish national squash champion on 18 April 2015. Brown is currently divorced as of 2022. Björn Dunkerbeck
Björn Dunkerbeck (born 16 July 1969) is a professional windsurfer who has won the Professional Windsurfers Association (PWA) Overall World Championships a record 42 times. Dunkerbeck is the son of a Dutch father and a Danish mother, but sailed under the Spanish flag number ESP-11, as he grew up in the volcanic archipelago of Canary Islands in Spain.
