Alne Railway Station
Alne railway station was a station which served the village of Alne in the English county of North Yorkshire. It was served by trains on the main line between York and Thirsk. From 1891 to 1957 it was the junction of the Easingwold Railway which connected the main line to the town of Easingwold. The station was north of York Station. History Opened by the Great North of England Railway. It became part of the London and North Eastern Railway during the Grouping of 1923, passing on to the Eastern Region of British Railways during the nationalisation of 1948. It was then closed by the British Transport Commission. In 1930, a third track was added at Alne and in 1959 fourth track was laid down. The station buildings were demolished in 1964 and since then, the line between York and Northallerton has been four tracks - two up lines and two down lines. Alne, North Yorkshire
Alne is a village and civil parish in the Hambleton District of North Yorkshire, England, about twelve miles north-west of York and four miles from Easingwold. The parish has a population of 711 (2001 census), increasing to 756 at the 2011 census. Etymology The village is named in the ''Domesday Book'' as part of the Bulford Hundred and owned by the church of St Peter, York. The name may be derived from the Latin word ''Alnus'' for Alder, as the village was surrounded by these trees. The name could also be derived from a river-name of the ''Alaunā'' type, derived from Brittonic ''al-'', "bright, shining" (Welsh ''alaw'', "waterlily"). This may have been an alternative name for the River Kyle. History The Parish used to include the nearby settlements of Tholthorpe, Aldwark, Flawith, Youlton and Tollerton, covering nearly 10,000 acres. Easingwold
Easingwold is a market town, electoral ward and civil parish in the Hambleton District in North Yorkshire, England. Historically, part of the North Riding of Yorkshire, it had a population of 4,233 at the 2001 census, increasing to 4,627 at the 2011 Census. It is located about north of York, at the foot of the Howardian Hills. History The town is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as "Eisicewalt" in the Bulford hundred. At the time of the Norman conquest, the manor was owned by Earl Morcar, but subsequently passed to the King. In 1265 the manor was passed to Edmund Crouchback by his father, Henry III. The manor was caught up in the dispute between the 2nd Earl of Lancaster and Edward I and the manor passed back to the crown following the Battle of Boroughbridge in 1322 which resulted in the execution of the Earl at Pontefract. East Coast Main Line
The East Coast Main Line (ECML) is a electrified railway between London and Edinburgh via Peterborough, Doncaster, York, Darlington, Durham and Newcastle. British Transport Commission
The British Transport Commission (BTC) was created by Clement Attlee's post-war Labour government as a part of its nationalisation programme, to oversee railways, canals and road freight transport in Great Britain (Northern Ireland had the separate Ulster Transport Authority). Its general duty under the Transport Act 1947 was to provide an efficient, adequate, economical and properly integrated system of public inland transport and port facilities within Great Britain for passengers and goods, excluding transport by air. Eastern Region Of British Railways

Hambleton District
Hambleton is a local government district in North Yorkshire, England. The administrative centre is Northallerton, and the district includes the outlying towns and villages of Bedale, Thirsk, Great Ayton, Stokesley, and Easingwold. Thirsk Railway Station
Thirsk railway station is on the East Coast Main Line and serves the town of Thirsk, North Yorkshire, England. It is down the line from and is situated between to the south and to the north.
