Alma-Ata Children's Railway
The Alma-Ata Children's Railway (russian: Алма-Атинская детская железная дорога, Alma-Atinskaya detskaya zheleznaya doroga) is a narrow-gauge children's railway in Almaty, Kazakhstan, which was called Alma-Ata from 1921 to 1993. The main route of the track had a gauge of and a length of . It was inaugurated on 13 September 1952 as one of many pioneer railways in the Soviet Union and on 20 July 1997 it was temporarily decommissioned. Since 2006 it has operated as a ridable miniature railway for entertainment rather than an educational purpose. Pafawag
Pafawag (Państwowa Fabryka Wagonów) (English: National Rail Carriage Factory) is a Polish locomotive manufacturer based in Wrocław. The company became part of Adtranz in 1997 as Adtranz Pafawag, and in 2001 part of Bombardier Transportation. It is now part of the company Alstom History The factory opened in 1833 as Linke-Hofmann-Werke, Breslau, and became one of the major production centres for rolling stock in Europe. By the end of the Second World War most of the factory had been destroyed, and after the War the city of Breslau became part of Poland. In 1953 the company was renamed Pafawag. In 1953 the company produced the EP-02, the first Polish electric locomotive manufactured after World War II. Children's Railways
A children's railway or pioneer railway is an extracurricular educational institution, where children interested in rail transport can learn rail transport, railway professions. This phenomenon originated in the Soviet Union, USSR and was greatly developed in Soviet times. The world's first children's railway was opened in Gorky Park (Moscow), Gorky Park, Moscow, in 1932. At the breakup of the USSR, 52 children's railways existed in the country. Many children's railways are still functioning in post-Soviet states and Eastern European countries. Many exhibit railway technology not seen anymore on the main lines and can be seen as heritage railways. Pavel Trofimovich Morozov (russian: link=no, Па́вел Трофи́мович Моро́зов; 14 November 1918 – 3 September 1932), better known by the diminutive Pavlik, was a Soviet youth praised by the Soviet press as a martyr. Evidence has emerged since the dissolution of the Soviet Union of the fabrication of the Pavlik Morozov legend, as well as what Soviet officials thought of him. His story, dated to 1932, is that of a 13-year-old boy who denounced his father to the authorities and was in turn killed by his family.
