Alluwe, Oklahoma
Alluwe is a ghost town in Nowata County, Oklahoma. The post office was established as Lightening Creek on October 23, 1872, after the namesake waterway. On June 27, 1883, the town was renamed Alluwe. The post office existed under this new name until July 31, 1909. History Settled as a community by the Delaware Indians. Oil was discovered in 1905. In the 1950s the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers constructed the Oologah Dam across the Verdigris River to form Oologah Lake Lake Oologah is a reservoir in northeastern Oklahoma. Nowata County is a county located in northeastern Oklahoma, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 10,536. Its county seat is Nowata. New Alluwe is a town in Nowata County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 95 at the 2000 census. Geography New Alluwe is located at (36.609452, -95.487754). In the middle twentieth century, New Alluwe was established at a site relocated from the construction of Oologah Lake. The old townsite now lies at the bottom of that lake.
