John Allum
Sir John Andrew Charles Allum (27 January 1889 – 16 September 1972) was a New Zealand businessman and engineer, and was Mayor of Auckland City from 1941 to 1953. Biography Early life and career Allum was born in London and educated at Goldsmiths College. He became a clerk and on 5 March 1908, he married Annie Attwood at Lewisham, and they emigrated to New Zealand the following year. He settled in Auckland briefly before working in Dunedin for four years before returning to Auckland in 1914. His stay was intended to be temporary, but he ended up living there the rest of his life. Allum was elected to the council of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce in 1919. An electrical engineer, Allum founded Allum Electrical in Auckland in 1922. Don Allum
Donald Edward Allum (17 May 1937 – 1 December 1992) was a British oarsman, the first person to row across the Atlantic Ocean in both directions. Duo Atlantic rowing Allum's cousin, Geoff Allum, initially thought of the idea to row solo across the Atlantic after reading John Ridgway and Chay Blyth's book ''A Fighting Chance'' and ''The Penance Way'' by Merton Naydler, written about the respective exploits of rowing duos Ridgway and Blyth, and David Johnston and John Hoare. However, on hearing the news that this feat had just been completed by John Fairfax, Geoff instead decided that he and Don should attempt to become the first crew to row the Atlantic in both directions. Bill Allum
William James Douglas Allum (October 9, 1916 – March 14, 1992) was a Canadian ice hockey defenceman and coach. He played one game in the National Hockey League, with the New York Rangers on November 16, 1940. The rest of his career, which lasted from 1937 to 1953, was spent in minor and senior leagues. He later coached the 1959 Memorial Cup-winning Winnipeg Braves. Playing career Born in Winnipeg, Allum moved through the local hockey ranks, playing for the junior-level Winnipeg Rangers, and senior-level Winnipeg Canada Packers of the OHASL, competing for the latter in the 1937 Allan Cup tournament. That October, Allum was signed by the New York Rangers, who assigned him to their local farm team, the EAHL New York Rovers. In his second season with the Rovers, Allum was named a First Team EAHL All-Star, and earned a call up to the Philadelphia Ramblers of the IAHL. Ron Allum (born 22 March 1949) is a submarine designer, cave diver and inventor. Allum is regarded as one of the world’s most experienced and accomplished cave divers. In 1983 he led an expedition to Cocklebiddy Cave on Australia’s Nullarbor Plain. The expedition achieved a world record push of into the cave system. Allum collaborated with James Cameron on a project to make a live broadcast from the wreck of the ''Titanic'' in 2005. This involved designing and building a fiber-optic spool system link to the surface. Allum designed the ''Deepsea Challenger'' submarine that took James Cameron to Challenger Deep. James Allum is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba in the 2011 election. He represented the electoral district of Fort Garry-Riverview as a member of the New Democratic Party of Manitoba caucus. On November 3, 2014, Allum was appointed as Minister of Justice after then-minister Andrew Swan, along with four other ministers, resigned from cabinet over concerns about Premier Greg Selinger's leadership.
