Allister Adel
Allister Adel (November 11, 1976 – April 30, 2022) was an American attorney who served as the County Attorney for Maricopa County, Arizona, from 2019 to 2022. She was the first woman to hold the position. Originally appointed to the position, Adel subsequently won election to a full term in November 2020. However, she resigned in March 2022 amid controversies over her tenure and fitness for office, and died a month later. Early life and career Adel grew up in Dallas, Texas, where she attended an all-girls school, The Hockaday School. Adel received her bachelor's degree in political science with a minor in criminology from the University of Arizona in 1999. She then worked at the Maricopa County Superior Court from 1999 to 2001 as a criminal court administrator. The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors is the governing body of Maricopa County, a county of over four million in Arizona. Rick Romley
Richard M. "Rick" Romley (born April 28, 1949) is an American lawyer and politician. As a Republican, he served as the County Attorney for Maricopa County, Arizona from 1989 to 2004 and again in 2010. Early life A veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the United States Marine Corps, he received numerous commendations for his service in that war, including the Purple Heart medal. He was severely wounded by a land mine, losing both legs above the knee and suffering other injuries. Following the war, Romley went to Arizona State University in Tempe as a business management student, and graduated in 1974. He later attended ASU's law school and attained his Juris Doctor degree in 1981. Career highlights Romley was elected Maricopa County attorney in 1989. Shooting Of Dion Johnson
On May 25, 2020, Dion Johnson, a 28-year-old Black man, was killed in Phoenix, Arizona, United States. According to the Phoenix Police, Department of Public Safety trooper George Cervantes was patrolling when he discovered Johnson's vehicle parked in the gore point near Loop 101 and Tatum Boulevard. Cervantes approached the vehicle and found Johnson asleep at the drivers seat, with cans of beer and a gun in the car, after removing the gun, Cervantes attempted to arrest Johnson. According to Cervantes, an altercation occurred when Johnson woke up and grabbed at him, Cervantes drew his weapon and ordered Johnson to comply with instructions, Johnson complied and then as Cervantes holstered his weapon, Johnson lunged for the weapon.
